I assume I need a new one of what's missing in this image, regardless of the steering wheel I end up using.

Yes, there is a carbon contact pin that goes there. It has a spring and rides on a brass ring attached underneath the steering wheel or wheel adapter.
The contact pin 32331350750 is available from a number of sources in the US.

Got it, ordered one. Not sure how you can turn one of them into what was left in my car, I have stopped asking such questions on this resto. Thanks all, stay well.

The carbon contact pin requires a brown-yellow wire but in both diagrams I am using, this wire goes directly to/from the horn relay. I have a brown-yellow wire with a female spade off my ignition switch which has switched power so that isn't it. Is it the brown-yellow wire off the dip switch which on mine, has had the spade cut?
