Stock Caliper Rebuild

Yes, heard of PMB in Porsche circles but didn't realize they rebuild BMW brakes. Will give them a call. Thanks.

I have 3 sets in now.
Porsche Mercedes BMW =
PMB performance

Just wondering if there is much to this other than replacing seals and making sure everything is clean and pit free? I'd like mine replated rather than just painted. Do they do this?

Sorry to make you post the same thing twice….I'm sold on that approach. Off hand do you know what they charge for E9 calliper rebuilds? (assuming blanks are in good shape)

Spoke to PMB yesterday; $279 for two-piston and $340 for four-piston. That's for a completely restored-to-factory fresh pair—soda blasting to bare metal, zinc plating, etc.

About $100 more per pair than the quotes I was getting, but well worth it, I think.

Do e9s have four-piston calipers up front?

Yes, 4 pistons up front

Great link Don.

Are the caliper half seals available for the front and rear of the e9?

That is expensive! Centric rebuilds them out here for $85 each, never had a leaker either. Not plated but very clean, I use Home Depot hammered gold or silver, it's lasted five years so far too.

Question...is the price per each caliper or a pair?

Having rebuilt calipers in the past (successfully) I am at a point where best spent $ is taken into a account in my automotive budget. Always first on my list is safety and brakes probably head that list. The cost for a proper rebuilt caliper looks for me to be cheap safety.

I went through the brakes when I purchased my coupe. New master, new rear slave cylinders, stainless brake lines etc. what I haven't done yet is the front calipers as I intend to switch over to the later vented front rotors which require modification of the caliper. Don has driven the car recently and doesn't feel the system is up par. Time to get it sorted.

Price quoted is per pair.

You can buy rebuild kits from BMW and rebuild them yourself.
Not difficult.
Just need a cylinder hone. $20 or so.
This is per wheel and retail price. Easily do better.

Or you could buy Centric rebuild kits from Rockauto for less than $10 per set. Part #14334002

Or rebuilt calipers from Rock Auto for $103 ea. Part #14134058

Just saying.................

I checked BMW, autohausaz Bavauto, Cardone last week.
No stock. No date.
Last 3 I got off ebay leaked from the bolts.
I don't paint raw metal with rattle cans on $100k cars and I can't leave them raw and rusty in 2 months.
I have done about 50 calipers myself- no zinc.....no deal on a major restoration.

question - would you buy a restored rear set (300 set) when you could buy a new ones from BMW for $216 ea. (tomkinson price) ... i know $120 is still $120 ... but new vs. 40 year old restored ... what am i missing?

new ones are $280 ea. for the fronts ... so about the same difference

Just wondering if Yellow Zinc is the best plating? I can get stuff Cad plated locally as well as Zinc plated. Does this rebuilder use Zinc because it is the only environmentally permitted plating available where they reside or because it is original or offers the best performance??
