I hope to be adding the story behind each design for the poster prints recently posted... It will be fun to share fresh ideas with BMW enthusiasts and keep the interest alive...

Thanks,

MF

Well I do not see any story posted yet, just marketing stuff using traditional clothing store techniques. I would not be surprised a line of T-shirts is announced next by the seller.

Anyway, I am not one to wait for stories so here is my version:

1) Quantum Click - This Quantum theme plays on the well known dichotomy between the wave vs. particle nature of light. The headlights and the interior are illuminated by the same wavelength color, yet the headlights show dispersion even though the light emanates through a reflector, and the cabin light fills the entire cabin even though it emanates from the lowly ignition key prizm. Brilliant. What does it have to do with BMWs?
That is where the CLICK comes in, the guy wants to sell you stuff, and you buy by CLICKing a transaction on Paypal.

2) Typical Revolution - Every good marketing campaign resorts to female associations especially on a male dominated demographic. The female imagery is three distinct yet similar cars being approached from behind, with the mysterious connotations of not yet having seen the beauty associated with their faces. Revolution is when they turn around (revolution is a misnomer because it would be 360 degrees not 180), so we pick one and own it. Going from WANT to OWN is precisely the act of buying through a CLICK. It could be worse, a more decadent marketing campaign could have said "To want three, to own three".

3) Well traveled so are you - Ah, the inescapable technique of flattering the buyer as to lower his defenses and convince him that he deserves to reward himself. This one can be a double edged move, because if we are so well traveled we would not fall for all this subtle marketing in disguise.

Stay tuned for the shirts now.

What the heck Arde?! Chill out.

What the heck Arde?! Chill out.

Vince I am just annoyed by a member trolling the e9board, the 2002 board, MBworld, Benzworld, Isskabase, FJ40, scale143, to market his wares. All I suggested is to use the "For Sale" section to sell stuff.

If one prefers to disguise marketing activities under General Discussion, then one can expect discussion.

Arde you are officially out-of-line. You may be able to run a google search and bring up 'moot' information. I will not justify responding to your posts, but if you post your full name, then others can run a google search on you and we will learn more about what it is you do.

I enjoying posting on forums, and plan on continuing to do so. I hope you are not the forum police....

No offense, but I don't see why your items can't be kept and "discussed" in the classified section, they are after all, for sale and profit is at least part of the motivation?

Steve, none taken....

The thing is, I like to talk about or 'discuss' how they came to be. I find the more you know the more 'fun' it is for the hobby....I remember reading old manuals and brochures and liking the stories behind the cars more than the final product.

For me, the classifieds is like an announcement... for sale/sold type of deal.

This is more like how and why and a bit of lifestyle 'talk'

Albeit I am new to it and it has been botched from the get-go

I have spent so many years, hours, and money on cars, now I feel like sharing the stories, maybe collecting something in return and there has been lots of good cop/bad cop.

I personally believe any man that works hard should be rewarded, and not ridiculed....although I understand many, many factors go into posting sale items on forums....

The fun part is in the story...but it is difficult to explain in short paragraphs and words sometimes...

Anyways this is my hobby and I like doing this better than anything else, bar-none.

I will post some geo-ham prints soon, maybe some will like his style more....

I would vote that all "discussions" about any kind of merchandise belong into the classifieds.

This is an exceptionally clean, well behaved, knowledgeable and polite forum. Vested (financial) interest can put a dent in that.

I´ve been around long enough to remeber heated arguements about market prices for coupes where some posters had an interest in uptalking values and where the tone could get quite ugly. I took the side then of posters who sharply critizised those posters only to see those shouted down by the loudest voices with the most vested interest to the point where even the admins (despite their excellent mderation) saw it fit to reprimand the guy pointing the finger (remember Chicane?)
I would rather not see that again.

I have also been PM´d for the first time recently here with a very blatant and dumb sales pitch (completely ignorant as well, pitching me a car on the wrong continent)

SO from my side: ware should be in the warehouse (classifieds) so I can choose to not go there at all.

And please don´t tell Arde to chill out. Respect his opionion, it is valid

I do disagree, but you are entitled to your opinion. If you understand what was going on, it is valid to ask a member to respect your post if he wants respect on his.

For someone to take hold of an idea in such a way is shameful to its creator and those supporting such an idea may consider what is at stake.

Lots of factors here...it may be best to respectfully disagree and leave it at that... I will not be bullied---period.

Someone posting an opinion without complete 100% fact may consider all of the information--so in that sense it may be wise to relax.

i have chosen to sit out for most of this discussion ... and probably should have resisted the urge to pipe in ... but ...

the fact is respect is something that you have to earn - its not an entitlement. I have come to expect Arde's humor within his posts, as i think most here have enjoyed, it is most often not meant as a biting attack. perhaps it hit too close to home or you are being a bit sensitive. there have been personal vendettas or feelings posted about some of the vendors who are members here - LJI, coupeguy and others ... and they are people who offer things for our coupes ... and they can just as easily go away and not support us. we have driven away some members who have just simply stayed away and no longer share any of their projects or wisdom. i have said it before, we need to do our part to get along -

the fact is, we do not need to get personal / attack within this forum - it drives people away ... and we need to enjoy the common bond that we share with the love of our coupes ... and the desire to maintain them in spite of mother natures desire to reclaim them. everyone take a break and lets move on - please.

and i agree that things for sale should be posted in the classifieds ... the discussion can follow

Well put RSP

Just to clarify: I appreciate all vendors supporting our hobby very much.
It is a valuable function of this forum to give those vendors a place to promote their products, see what the enthiousiast market is discussing and maybe even kindly share some knowledge. That can be very fruitfull for all parties.

And of course sometimes the line is blurry. If DQ has a thread documenting rebuilding something on his coupe and then mentioning that he might have made multiple of whatever he is fabricating and might be able to sell them to others - should he put that in another thread in classified? Probably not. A question of context.

But a thread where the main reason for starting it seems to be promoting a product: I would appreciate if the thread starter would politely stand by his intentions and simply use the cassifieds.

I also get nervous when people are told to "Chill". Most times that is meant in a friendly manner but frankly, you´ve got to be really well aquainted with someone to be allowed to basically tell him to shut up. Otherwise it is simply rude. Now if those who posted their concerns with Ardes input know him personally and can be sure that he will take them as friendly nagging then all is well and I´ll happily retract my objection

But also for context: None of this here is a big deal (at least to me). Just a little finding of comfort zone and forum hygiene.

In that sense: I´d be happy to be the first to chill... :)

Yes, good points made by all and probably time to move on....I suppose thanks to all for talking the time to read and respond....

I will try and post a little more info for anyone who is curious, and this is supposed to be fun to learn and read about.
