I will be needing two of the threaded rings that hold the shock into the strut on my -74 e9. Anyone here have one or two they'd like to sell??? I'm pretty sure the e3's used the same strut/retaining ring.

If so, please send me a PM via conversations with condition and price. Ships to 19382.

Thanks,

Gary Knox

Bert,

When I checked earlier this morning, the list price for them was in the high $30's each, with a very modest discount by the usual dealers.

Gary

Gary this is the part number for an 81 Euro E24. The same strut tubes as on an E12 and E3 31321117376 and they show on realoem as still available and a price of $14 .The part number you show shows as still available at $25 +/-. Maybe another hosing by your friendly neighborhood dealer??

Bert,

OK - I'm confused. The dealers and after market parts diagrams (e.g. South Atlanta, Pelican) show this for the e24, and e12. Yes, those prices range from $14-$21. Why are there two different part numbers for the same item? I believe I noticed that there were 4 good sized holes in the xxx376 part (used for tightening/loosening?, that I did not see in the pix of the xxx093. Any illumination from anyone would be helpful!

Gary-

thanks Chris ... i would have guessed the reverse ... so another item into the 'what i learned today' column

I see it showing a 50mm and/or 48mm for the E12/e24 in realoem if you check both and it says the same gland nut fitsE 12 e9 e24/early, and should fit e3. I am basing the E3 on the fact that I have sold at least 5 sets of lowering springs her to the E3 people and they have worked

Bert, I looked up e12 530, 528, 535 and e24 630 and 635 in RealOEM and it only lists the M48, I don't see any others. Where should I look?

I learned the hard way when I first had my coupe and installed new Bilsteins, my right strut is e12 and used the smaller nut.

Edit: the 48mm fits an e3 but not e9.

I was roaming all over and forgot where I found it. However I started again , kept randomly searching the older cars and what I found was part#31321100093 Which tied to an E12 528 I just grabbed a date, I think '75 . This is the same number Gary showed in the original post and realoem shows it as a 50mm and still good number.

Thanks for all the clarification guys. I bought the Paul Cain adjustable struts that WKohler had for sale, and will be installing a pair of new Koni shocks in them. Just needed to know what I need. Chris tells me it is the 48mm X 1.5 threaded part. Number he references is: 31321117376
These, as Bert states above are much less expensive!

Here is what is weird to me. When I put my Bill hds in IIRC the gland nut they provided didn't work. I don't know the size. Anyway I bought what the dealer called for and they fit fine.

Put Konis in some time later and used the same nut and all was also well. So my guess is what BMWcalls for is probably correct. Looks like 48mm is the most common size called for.

Chris,

Well, I'm going to leave the current strut assembly just as it is. I'm sure someone on this Forum (or eBay) will want a set of struts with excellent condition Bilsteins and heavy duty springs. Thus, my desire for these proper nuts for the Paul Cain struts which will have C Nelson lowering springs and new Koni shocks. Swap out will be done sometime this summer.

Cheers,

Gary

I have yet to install mine so I just measured the ID at 49mm, assuming the thread would be 50mm. These sleeves were custom made and I have to believe Paul used the existing size of 50mm.

chris, I had an E3 wreck which I removed the struts from to use on my E9 and they where 50mm .. 48mm where from the E12 I believe and 50mm E9... I have an E12 strut with the gland nut in very good condition if anyone is looking for one. The reason I have it is because my E9 had a 48mm one side and a 50mm the other !! ( a repair in the past ??) So I used one of the 50mm from the E3 so the they where as they should be, and but Bilsteins and CN springs in them..
