Stupid Diff question

Sorry for the dumb question but the net isn't really giving me an answer. So I pulled the diff out of a parts Bavaria I have and when I grab both output flanges they both only turn together. No slip at all and both turn same way. If I grab pinon same thing both turn and no slip... There is no "S" stamped on the case and its a 3.6. Having never had a limited slip is it possible for for it to be such a high percentage that I won't be able to induce any slip? Common sense is telling me it may be welded...but I guess common sense would really tell me to open it up.....which I didn't really want to do yet.

Any input from those in the know is appreciated.

BTW this is one of the late Rich Gehrings old cars and was involved heavily with the BMWCCA autocrossing community here in San Diego as well as the Brecht Motorsports team.. Which leads me to believe its not stock....

VIP the wheels will turn together on a limited slip differential. It should be pretty difficult to turn just one side with the other wheel on the ground. It is most likely a 3.64lsd. If it was welded you would experience wheel hop or a lot of vibration if you drove the car slowly in a tight circle

Thanks OCCoupe ... Only problem is I bought this car as a parts car not running and didn't check the wheel turning thing before pulling the diff. I always thought that you would be able to turn the axle flanges and feel some resistance between the sides (more so than a open diff). I can not turn them independent of each other (at least off the car...Perhaps the leverage of having an axle and wheel on the ground would let you turn one independent of the other?)

Its probably a lsd. Ive tried with different cars before to turn the wheels independently and never could.

Ive ridden in cars with spooled differentials and i would subjectively say that they are unstreetable!

Thanks 2800CS ..that's kinda what I figured.. Once the coupe is back on the road I will open the one up from the parts car and see whats actually inside.

Glad to see you are still on the forum.

Cheers
Mark
