I'd like to get my Weber 45's redone to look and work as new and was wondering who anyone in the know would suggest is a trustworthy expert? I believe I was all set to send them to Pierce manifolds a few years ago if memory serves me correctly. From what I remember I assumed they are good, mostly because they have the parts. Opinions from anyone who has been down this route appreciated.

I've never had Pierce rebuild carbs but they have always been reliable and good to work with, and I've bought enough stuff from him to pay the mortgage. If you're on Facebook there is a good Weber group that may be able to suggest, and there is a knowledgeable guy form Canada on there.

Weber Carburetor Support Tips and Tricks

If you go to the Alfa Romeo Board there is a fellow there called Gordon Raymond that does very , very good restorations on Webers. He does a lot of Ferrari ones as well as a bunch of Alfa ones He has probably forgotten more than most people know Webers are quite easy to do, easy to get parts for. why not do them yourself. I have about 6 sets for 3 alfa engines, my son's 2002 and my own 3 45's to do for my coupe( some day ). Got all the kits for them, everything has been plated, now just have to find time to do them all. Also have my set of triple throats for one of my 911's to do as well, plus a few triple throat Zeniths for 911's

Pierce is only one place to buy Weber parts, there are others I can look them up if you want

What is wrong with yours?

Thanks, Rick

I currently have 15 carbs lined up to refresh on various vehicles. Most are motorcycle carbs. I just want to solve my current backlog with money rather than me muddling through cleaning etc. I guess I also have a fear of failure too. With the Webers I want them to have the aesthetics 100% and feel an expert usually has something additional to offer. I know it is going to be expensive, but I have to try to get projects done that aren't moving forward. I have refininished a lot of Corvair carbs over the years and also the Solex 1bbl on my 2002. They did turn out well, but they are extremely rudimentary. Mine are just tired.

Well, check out Gordon Raymond on the Alfa board, his work is outstanding. I know what you mean about things piling up. I have also done a lot of Zenith resto's for my coupe customers I think that I posted something a couple of years ago under carb candy Have a look I also have a set of 2800CS zenith carbs all cleaned and ready to put together that I will be selling complete with the powder coated manifolds and all the linkage plated Just need more time

Steve, that might be Paul. He is pretty good but not sire if he does reatoration work or just rebuilds them, we worked together 2 summers ago on a sports Racer who also had a 2002 Vintage racer with twin 45,s

The facebook link did not work for me but Jim Hilton name came up, he is part owner of Overseas Auto, a parts store , they have a lot of Weber parts, maybe not so much anymore, he does rebuild them but not as a restorer Known them for over 40 years His older brother, John, and I worked together years ago

Thanks for the tips. I am so far behind on all my projects, I just want to farm out the stuff you have to get right. In this case I want the total package. As for refinishing the Alpina intake,

Is he located in Canada by any chance? I think I might have met him many years ago at a BMW show & shine and taken his number down (That was many broken cell phones ago) I was looking over a Taiga CSL and chatting with the owner and he said a guy also standing beside us was "The Guy" you wanted to get them in top shape. I believe Luis A was there with his Mint Bavaria that year.

Yes, Jim Hilton, I don't know him but he answers a lot of questions on the FB page

Yes, Jim Hilton at Overseas Auto. I have bought Weber parts from him too. His shop is a cross between museum, storefront, warehouse, a hoarders dining room and racks of parts bins where he can pull almost any Weber carb piece out individually and then advise you on how to set up and prepare your carburettors. Always worth the visit!

AFAIK, Gordon is no longer restoring ‘pedestrian’ Webers. If you have a set of 60 year old DCO’s from a old Maserati, he’ll probably be interested.

For the last 5 years Gary Martin has been advertising Weber restoration service e in the Alfa club magazine. I have no personal experience with his service.

Gary’s number is 605-430-7368.

Have old set of Weber downdrafts previously on my 3.0 coupe. Changed over to M30 3.5 liter and fuel injection. They have been in my barn in a box for 30 years. Free for the taking except pay for shipping.

Immortal1 - I suggest you post this in the parts section. They will go fast.

My friend who is an expert mechanic sent his twin Weber 40 DCOE Alfa carbs to this restoration specialist--and they are really nice in looks and performance:

WEBER restoration service. Alloy castings returned to AS NEW appearance using 4-step multi-media process, steel pieces electroplated, external brass pieces re-machined or renewed. New leather seals (over re-packed bearings), float valves, gaskets, O-rings, stainless steel fasteners (22 pcs). Synchronized on bench manifold. $275/ carb. Gary Martin, 605-430-7368, [email protected].

The price may be different, but the work will be the same.
