Support for the exhaust

Hi everyone,

The bodywork of my car is reaching the end, but I still have a question.
I'm not sure if there needs to be some kind of support at the end of the exhaust? (See picture below)
When I dismantled my car I noticed that there was a piece welded on the bottom of the spare wheel well. This piece was also connected to the exhaust.
Now I am not sure if this was original or the previous owner did some adjustments himself.

Anyone that can check or verify this?

Thanks in advance,

Kind regards, Jens

Hi Jens, that part circled is a tab for the support ofboot floor panels. The exhaust tail pipe is hung on a rubber mount that attaches to a flange by the cut out for the tail pipe.

There is a vertical tab welded to the underside between the spare wheel well and the corner of the car. Basically centered above the exhaust pipe just in front of the rear valence.

On my '72, I have the far rear end of my exhaust attached to the verticle tab Sven describes. (I also have a very slight rip in the sheet metal around that tab, which worries me. ugh.)
