Not sure, but looks like the car that was in Texas a few years ago. Not sure how it got to Holland, probably a broker bought it. What are they asking for the car??

obviously he has received 45 000 euro as a starting bid.

Not necessarily. All one can say is thats what he's asking. Otherwise are buyers of such cars now-a-days that naive?

A rather tatty looking but original Golf Bat 2 (4355020) sold for an actual, real $110,000 this year, went to Canada. I would be shocked if this car did not reach at least that level. As they say, they're not making any more of them, there were only 57 to start with and fewer all the time.

I fully agree. If the mileage is correct and documented I would say that this car normally should reach at least 100 000 - 150 000 USD. In the add it says there is so far one concrete bidder (45 000 euro) and that the car is equipped with AC and power windows.

Well, I still am not convinced. I know that L's are uncommon as hell (duh) and the type 2's even more so (double-duh) but I am not convinced that really high sales here and there indicate that "the market" is "on the rise" The BEST indicator that "the market" is up is when the people who discuss prices in these threads (that would be US) are the ones who are actually paying those higher prices...AND that MOST of us when we buy a car (or bought) are paying those higher prices. Most L's that change hands do not get talked about publicly, do they? And I know VERY few people who publicly bleat about what they are paying, just like most (private) sellers don't go crowing about what they sold so-and-so for. Make sense?

Who's trying to convince you of anything anyway, dp? I KNOW the market is huge, in Europe and even over here. I personally have had the Bruce Canepa company interested in my early L, NOT a batmobile at $100k, and a guy from Sweden recently was VERY interested at $110k. I could have sold it a dozen times at over 100, thats a fact. I just don't want to sell it yet because I love it and I know it will appreciate even more.

A friend, an American living in the UK paid 80,000 euros, over $120K for a regular Inka CSiL. NOT A BAT. That is real. The people on this board are not the ones who pay that money, its speculators, collectors, cognizenti. No, I would not nor could not pay that kind of money myself.

Another for instance, factory race cars HAVE DEFINITELY SOLD for $250-500k. Thats a half a million dollars. IT IS A REAL phenomenon, the BMW CSL is a $100k plus car NOW, and will go higher. I know this from personal experience, I hear soxrus paid over $300k for Conways two Ls.

Look at the American CRAP that sells for two million dollars at auction, like a Hemi Cuda Convert. What is that about, this was a $4k car!? People will pay for what they want, and they want CSLs, especially in Europe. That Golf Bat 2 DID sell for $110k, and the Tiaga Bat will sell for that as well or more

I also get lots of inquiries on my Bat 2 under restoration. They dont flinch at $200k, they are lining up for it when its finished (if that ever happens, ever try to get a car done ground up?). Time to wake up, the CSiL is finally a real collector car, as it should have been all along. Why is a similar Porsche 911RS worth a quarter mil and not the equivalent CSL?

I agree with coupeguy. It is a fact that CSL is currently ungoing a serious upgrading in terms of value. Just read the article in the recent BMW Magazine, where it mentions that CSL are to be seen as a piece of art and more or less independant from ups and downs on the stock market etc.

Of course the price range various a bit. It is still possible to buy a CSL for at rather medium price but in this case the buyer must be in a position to have a big "know-how" and to be able to put a lot of money on renovation, parts, labour etc.

I think a certified CSL in good condition should be priced in the same price range as an old Porsche Carrera RS. Here in Europe the price range for a RS is in the region of 150k-250k Euro.

Most rare and expensive are normally the early ones (169 built), the really light ones without city package (about 250 built), the RHD without city package (very few built) and the Batmobiles (167 built)

Please remenber that we are talking about a car which was built in only 1265 exemplares as street cars in total (500 were RHD). Today the estimate is that only some 550 CSL street cars in total have survived.

CSL production and VIN range (in bracket the estimated number of cars traced as per April 2008):

2210-2211-2212... CS VIN range. Carb cars with 2985 engine - 169 built 9/1971-7/1972 (about 40)

2275001-2275429 production code 3451. Injection 3003cc engine - 429 cars built 9/1972-6/1973 (about 140)

2275430-2275539 production code 7071. Batmobile with two fin wing and with injection 3153cc engine - 110 cars built 7/1973-10/1973 (about 60)

4355001-4355057 production code 7071. Batmobile three fin wing and with injection 3153cc engine - 57 cars built 4/1974-10/1975 (about 30)

2285001-2285500 RHD production code 3452. Injection 3003cc engine - 500 cars built 9/1972-6/1973 (about 280)

Cheers

The value/price trend discussion comes up here often. Perhaps we should create a wiki type log of confirmed sale prices by model/year/condition. We certainly have the collective expertise and interest.

BTW, are those 16" on this Bat ?? I didn't think that was stock.
