Take Off Your Belt

Any opinions on removal of the belt trim on a 73 Bavaria? As a complete new set cannot be located I am considering removal as part of the repaint.

Just did it, each piece has two 5.5mm nuts on it. The front ones have two at the very front, so three. You have to take off the inside piece of metal in the wheel well to get to the ones in the very front of the car. After nuts are removed Pop off the trim with a flat puddy knife. Use a punch to pop the center of the clip in then pull them off easily. Replace with new clips when you put it all back together. That's it.

My opinion is that it won't look right, and the effort to fill the holes will approximate the effort to find good, used pieces.

Agree, the car just does not look as classy or as classic without the belt trim.

I like it without the belt trim.

My opinion is it looks clean, but also kind of barren without the trims.
My blue 3.0Si is a case in point.

At the risk of belaboring the obvious, and regardless of personal preference, there is "precedent" for "some" early E3's (through mid-'71?) without the decorative strips/molding. :wink:
