What are the various front blinker lenses and what's correct?
  • Orange/Amber
  • White/Clear
  • Two Tone/White & Amber
My Fjord Euro 73 E9 said to be first delivered to Italy has front and rear solid Amber blinkers; my "understanding" is the Two Tone front blinkers for an Italian car is period correct. While I'd like to install Two Tone, they are hard to find. I found a set of all White front blinkers and thinking about changing from Amber to White with Orange bulb.

Keep with Amber?
What's is period correct?
Shoot for period correct?
Go with what you like?

My opinion and my experience:

First some background: I also have Fjord blue Italian delivery 1973 E9. My car is not period correct, it has M90 with L-Jetronic from M535i E12.
When I bought the car 1,5 years ago it had the amber lenses in front (and rear). Last summer I did change the front ones to clear ones with orange pulp from W&N. I only did it for the looks. And most surely I'll keep the clear ones installed.

My CSi was delivered to Italy & came with amber lenses & changed to Italian amber/white lenses in 2011.

Two tone looks cool and matches the Italian provenance.
The best scheme would be clear lens with orange bulb so it looks orange only when blinking...
And for US, it would use dual bulb so it looks white when used as driving light, and orange for turns.

On the CSi there are no side running lights on US Coupes they are only turn signals. The headlights have a "City Light" 5-10w bulb that are the running lights.

@m5bb's Coupe has clear lenses with yellow bulbs.

I don't like the clear lense look. To me its something like going with huge rims and skinny tires. In general, I like huge rims and skinny tires. But for our cars I don't.

I know the amber can be striking, particular against darker colors, and I understand Gary's thinking that he wanted to make all the various components of his car consistent and to his liking, but I'm sticking with amber. I just bought a set of lenses from Chris, and they are great.

I had a set of Italian lenses that I sold to a buddy whose car was originally delivered in Italy. Only if I had an Italian delivery car would I do Italian lenses.
