The $407 gear shift knob

still available to order from BMW as far as i'm aware (although the knob with the BMW logo is nla)

The roundel on mine is cracked. Anyone know if that part of it is available.

Maybe I will just post it on ebay for a small fortune.

When pricing out my project I certainly didn't anticipate these hidden costs and that is why my books are now well hidden from my Senior Manager (Wife).

Any reasonably competent wood turner should be able to make up any number of these. How much would that cost?
I'm converting an auto to manual and one of the things I need is a gear knob. I have a 265/6 with the 528i shift lever which I think is a press on type.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the wooden knob so that I can have one turned?

If someone would please measure the full length and the max width of their wood knob I would appreciate it.

I just realized that this could be taken in a very different way to what is meant.

So you want us to measure the Girth of our Knobs?

Do a search, I think there is someone on the board who does this...

I also followed this one to have a look at it where it ends, because i'd like to replace mine with such an Alpina knob.
It's amazing, that somebody want's to pay the price for more or less 3 of those in new for just 1 in good used condition. There's no chance to understand the idiots.:razz::razz:

There must be a secret behind this mystic knob ....

Good for the seller, that every day an idiot is born.

Ive just made 6 standard sized gearknobs to the exact dimensions in cherry, but I cant find the 30mm emblem that goes on top.i could only find a steering wheel emblem which is 44mm wide so that batch of gearstick knobs are slightly bigger but still feel good when shifting through the box. Would anyone be interested in one?

Meant to say ive made 6 standard sized to the old knod and 6 bigger ones so 12 in all.

Hi all,

I saw both of these gearknobs when Joe came across to help me with my carbs last Saturday and neither I or the guys in the shop could tell the cherry replica from the original gearknob.

These are good quality and I guess it helps that Joe is a joiner by trade and a race spec master mechanic by hobby.

Hey Joe, remember you only have 5 of the original size as one is promised to me  :-o

goodness.
Didn't the early Alpina logo have a different font
and with a camshaft and not a crankshaft?

I'll buy you a beer
if you can prove two people
actually exchanged that much money
for that pictured knob
