Rek, the UK's kindness to classic cars is the only reason I can think of for Brexit.
 
Of course, when government runs out of things to do and to justify their bloat they go looking for more and more minutia crap to impose on people, usually with unintended consequences.
 
Very sad to learn about this Barry. I have to admit I am largely ignorant to this whole inspection process. Here in Wisconsin, and Illinois where we lived previously, there were no inspections for an old car. Newer cars do require emissions testing, but at some point that all goes away. So no matter how rough an old car may be, you'll see them driving down the highway and in the city all year 'round. Many appear to be (and often are) held together with nothing more than gaffers tape and bailing wire. I'm not saying that is a good thing, but it is something I hope not to take advantage of... I always take very good care of my old vehicles, and try to keep them like new or modified with performance and longevity in mind. The coupe is next. She's got a long way to go, and thankfully no one will need to inspect it before I am allowed to drive.
 
Everyone talks about California being bad. Before 1975 you don't really need to do anything special. I didn't realize the EU was getting so difficult.
 
Haha, i got my invitation for the tech inspection….. they won't see me with the red car . Shouldn't even try.
And the "horror" storys begin.... my brother has a sunny sunday cruiser '72 TR6 , did go tech inspection yesterday as it is complete oem ….disapproved because there is no chassis number pressed in the chassis....only on tag's. So you see they only have "rules" but don't know anything about cars. TR6's don't have pressed in chassis numbers.
At the parts store somebody was disapproved because of some oil drips on the engine... omg, what 50 years old engine is not sweating oil….
See even my own problems to get the blue one approved last year , not working odo wheels , emergency brake not equal enough left/right...and a 4 man discussion because my (new Bilstein) shocks were yellow…. ! That were 3 work monkeys and a chief monkey.
 
Could you register in a different country? Do the rules apply across all of the EU? Say you have a summer home in Spain or Italy - are you allowed to have a vehicle registered there (especially a secondary vehicle)?

And that trick is just asking problems…. Police watch out for foreign license plates. It all started here years ago with many plates from Luxembourg.... because the taxes to buy /lease a car there was much cheaper. There were even company's that rented you a "adres" over there to be "legal" … but in the end it didn't work. Belgian government want his tax income from Belgian cars…...
Recently they controlled all with "foreign" adres , if they live there at least 1/3 of the year…..otherwise they just see it as avoiding taxes.
