I was summoned to baby sit in Ojai, great chance to roam beautiful CA in the e39 M5.
Sharing some pictures and wisdom along with my stupidity.
Drove to the Ojai Valley Inn following the GPS, it took me to a service/supplier entrance, kept going as internal roads kept getting narrower until I realized I was driving the M5 on the golf cart roads... Doing the 180 degree involved some driving over the greens... Eventually made it to the front as seen in the second picture where the Valet guy took over, another young BMW owner that said that it was the highest mileage M car he has parked.
The resort is beautiful, and they cater to golfers, for example through this tribute to an Ozempic golfer you see in the picture.

they were selling a used copy of a well recommended book on the economic topics we discuss elsewhere!
Then I ran into the Don Lawrence of Ojai with about 7 Chevys from the 50s on! He must feel vindicated by his choice of Detroit classics...
We made it later to LA, where they posted a sign just to educate me on my GPS stupidity while approaching the Griffith observatory!
Close to 1.000 enjoyable miles, highly recommended.

At least you didn't jump the sandtraps backwards off the lips with the M5 like I did in Jr. High School with the gas golf cars. Clubs flying everywhere. I always requested the gas carts because back then they were faster than the electrics, especially uphill.

Needless to say I was on a first name basis with the cigar smoking Marshal on his little yellow Honda moped. Funny thing is I am applying for Marshal positions out here in CD'A for a "fun" job. Surprisingly, he never 86'd us for good, public courses rule, even got a discount as a student. I think he was probably the same way when he was our age. Not to mention the under age drinking and cigar smoking ourselves. Ahhhh, the good ol' days! BTW, I have progressively gotten worse at golfing since then. Go figure. I always wonder, is it a "sport" or a "game?" Especially when using a cart...
 
I skipped the worst part, my wife was telling me all along I was on the wrong path. Such great food and me eating my hat for the rest of the trip. A classy car can also get you free valet, this time at the Santa Barbara Ritz Carlton. I did some baby sitting and a sushi that even Breiti would like.
Try as I may, I could not find Troy, no questions asked means he doesn't not need to give you a 1099 form? I see a cat tax loophole here.

I'd go with "sport"... ;)
 
F. Scott Fitzgerald said he knew America was going to pot when they started to call golf a sport. And Ben Jonson said it was a good walk spoiled.
 
It can be frustrating for sure...I'm more of a tennis guy but I will pick it up more the older I get and can't play doubles anymore. On the fence about pickleball. It is huge here because Selkirk is based out of here. Again, probably wait until tennis is done but may start playing here and there. I hear tennis players pick it up pretty quick. I heard that about golf too, but not the case with me.
 
Golf and soccer are games not sports, just look at the appearance of the top players, they are built like normal people, not super athletes. Have Leo Messi try out for the NFL...

It's an interesting question I have always debated. Best example I can think of is...look at John Daily or Miguel Jimenez. Love 'em both, but...top tier athletes playing a sport? Hmmmmm...I played soccer (futbol) growing up and had members of my Dutch family go pro, I'd say that is much more of a sport than golf. Constant running...it's not as easy as it looks. Like surfing. I grew up surfing, the pro's make it "look" easy until you try it and and can't even get past the break without literally choking on sea water and/or almost dying. The ocean is no joke. Mother nature is in control...not us land walking humans.
 
Yes, athleticism counts for soccer, but check out one of the best players the US had, Landon Donovan...here training my boys.

Not a superman, smart, hard working, quick. It is true that over time the game became much focused on the athleticism side and left behind good lazy players...
