This question comes from my wife, and I could not answer it.

"Why is it that to work on that car you always pick the newest and fanciest clothing items and end up ruining them".

Sympathy would be better than observations on my character or intelligence.

Its because you don't PLAN on working on the car, but while you're looking at it in all of its glory you find something that needs to be addressed. And we all know where that leads...

That is really funny you brought this up. I have ruined about every nice pair of shorts or nicer t-shirt that I have had in the last month working on this car. It's because it is at my buddies shop and I'm usually either doing something afterwards or before that requires semi-decent clothing. I've made it a point now to go in practically the same old pair of shorts and t-shirt and just come right back home and change afterwards. Now they are going to begin to wonder why I am always wearing the same clothes.....

1+ for dang. I routinely hear "That's a nice T-shirt, how long is it gonna stay that way"

My wedding ring is quite thin and the jeweler thought I was a cheap SOB (perhaps True but unrelated). I told him I am spontaneous with car repairs and didn't want something large to destroy or get caught on something.

I haven't worn my wedding ring for 10 years, took it off when restoring our house so I wouldn't damage it or myself. Now it won't fit over my knuckle, so it sits on my dresser. A plus is my steering wheels stay unscratched.

That's exactly how it happens.

My wife has a drawer of "play clothes" as she calls them, items that I have previously ruined and are supposed to be used for working on the car. The problem is I keep generating more from new stock.

My wife always asks why I can find time to work on the coupe but the household chores never seem to get done. I don't have an answer for her either.

My wife says I treat my coupe like an aging starlet.

What else is one to wear when embracing her? Grease stained jeans and a ratty tee shirt! No way. Steve

my "play clothes" are on the very top shelve in the laundry room and most of the time .. I am too lazy to reach that high for them ..

My issue is I go out to the garage to "get something" ... then it's coupe time. If I go back inside to change I take a chance at blowing my cover.

Thats until the infamous garage door opens slowly with either my wife or 3 yr old asking what I'm doing.

What else is a Gentleman mechanic suppose to wear?
