This is messed up.. mail stopped to USA

i placed an order over the weekend with W+N, i got a notice from UPS that it was on its way ... but no delivery date published

W&N ships with UPS and UPS does collect tariffs. Sending through the post office is a different situation entirely, and that is probably why shipments are suspended.

I have a BMW motorcycle engine rebuilder working on a 1944 twin for me, and he is getting stuff shipped in via UPS and he thinks it will come. Fingers crossed.

On the way…

Don, let me know if you need help stashing things in Europe until the smoke clears...
What if I meet you in Europe around November and we hand carry the two of us all the stuff :)?

The only good news is that it seems like tariffs proceeds will be used to reduce the US national debt ...
The debt has been on my mind since my son created this primer 8 years ago:
Arde I respectfully disagree. It's a wait and see thing but from what we've seen so far (the big beautiful bill) Trump cut a bunch of funding and then cut even more taxes and increased spending for military and ICE. The end result was an increase in spending. Furthermore Trump (just like his previous presidency) will have to placate the pissed off farmers by subsidizing them for all the crops that can't tended too and picked.

I agree with your skepticism. I may be expressing the hope that it is used to lower the debt instead of the gimmick of a tax refund. Long term a balanced budget helps preserve the value of the currency, which impacts me much more than this year's taxes. I was echoing was Bessent said was the plan, and the fact the CBO came up with a higher forecast for current tariff revenue and through 2035. Bessent appears soft spoken and thoughtful to me.

Yes, food prices have gone up significantly even though the fruits and vegetables I consume are local and unaffected by tariffs. It could be labor shortages. California uses the H-2A visa process to bring in temporary agricultural workers, which on paper are less subject to exploitation than undocumented workers.

Apologies for the tangent, I thought there was a positive angle to enjoy :).

I too apologize - got a little political there :)

Dear oilsdesigngroup,
We are committed to keeping you informed about developments that may affect your business on eBay.

What you need to know
With effect from August 29, 2025,the United States (US) government will remove the import duty exemption on goods valued at or below USD 800. Several international postal services have already announced that they will suspend postal shipments to the US. Others are expected to follow.

This means that depending on your region, your local postal service may temporarily stop delivering to US buyers. If your postal operator is affected, this could impact your ability to fulfill US orders through standard postal channels.

To stay updated, please review our tariff updates page, where you will find the most recent information on which postal services are impacted and what options are available. Please reach out directly to the postal service or refer to their website for the most up to date information.

What this means for you

Some postal shipments to the US may no longer be accepted by your local postal service

Buyers in the US may experience order delays or cancellations if affected postal services are used

We encourage you to check the updates regularly to ensure smooth postal deliveries and provide your buyers with accurate information.

What we recommended
In light of the recent changes by the US government, we strongly recommend that you:

1.
Use shipping carriers that provide a Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) solution. DDP shipments help ensure smooth customs clearance, faster delivery timelines, provide hassle-free experience for your buyers as well as reduce chances of buyer rejecting your item due to non payment of import duty.

2.
Mention the correct Harmonized Tariff Codes (HSN) and country of origin information in your item listings. This ensures compliance with customs requirements and helps avoid delays or penalties.

By choosing DDP and mentioning accurate product information, you can minimize risks, reduce returns, and enhance buyer satisfaction.

We’ll continue to provide updates on postal services as we learn more about the impact for the eBay sellers.

okay, still less than 15% of the order, excluding freight by 24 bucks, so i went onto the UPS site, and only got charged for 39.56. funny thing, the invoice number does not match anything. perhaps i'm in for a big surprise when it arrives.

Ah. I was just reading about this:
  • The Executive Order signed in July eliminated the De Minimis exemption for international shipments coming to the USA. Previously, packages under $800 were duty-free.
  • Packages will now be subject to per-country tariffs or temporary flat fees from $80 to $200.

I’m re-freshening a 73 BMW 2002tii and had an add of 464.09 on a 969.90 order with no break down of what it is based on…needed the parts so I had to pay, I thought it was a scam when I received the email with that due…

If you can hold off ordering parts until October for parts not currently in the USA, things might change.

"An appeals court ruled that most of President Trump's tariffs are illegal — but held off on enforcing the decision until mid-October, given expectations that it will be appealed to the Supreme Court."

i think i would ask for a breakdown. no way it should be that high. so if you paid it on line, did the amount = the total on the email? sounds like somebody is figuring the tariff thing out incorrectly to me ... sounds like a Chinese tariff, not a EU tariff
