gorgeous. However, I finally gave up on VAG in 2010. If you think this is bad, the VW W8 engine is not serviceable. The replacement 'part' is a new engine. There is a guy on vwvortex that rebuilt one. He took a hack saw (literally) to VR6 rod bearings after he learned they were the same, albeit wider.
I'd consider dropping that engine and spending $3K on parts.
Anything from the VW group in notoriously unreliable any mega bucks to fix.
I have several mechanic friends who tell me horror stories all the time.
But to be fair I'm not sure BMW or most of the other euro manufacturers are much better.
Down here in NZ you can buy a nice cond second hand euro for $8-10k or less, but you better have loads of disposable
Income to keep it going, parts are expensive, and with labour at $80+ dollars an hr it can turn ugly real fast.
And that gentlemen, is why I own a Mazda (and a Fiat and a Mini Cooper JCW)
I initiated a conversation with a guy selling a mint 1995 Corrado recently, but have chickened out. I'd trade my 2002 for the right VR6 Corrado, as I had three of them between 1994 and 2009 and always enjoyed driving them, but I can't take on another car. I also always figured I'd own a 911, but I think that isn't very likely with the way that market has head.
