Hi folks, spoke with Don for a while today. He is doing a lot of Megasquirt upgrades including, recently, to a guy who had his MS install around the time I did - February 2011. Yes, I have one of the original installs (MS2 extra serial 310) and she is running quite well actually, including a dyno pull of 200hp who back in July on a nearly 100 degree day out here in Virginia. Afterwards, Vern helped me manually smooth my tables and add some fuel/spark advance and I'm really happy right now with the seat the pants dyno reading. But there are still issues controlling AC idle when the car is on and I can no longer run data logs as the car cuts out frequently...

So the new MSPNP2 box is recommended by Don and it sounds like a plug and play.

I would love to hear from Sven and some of the other MS pros before I order a new box and install on my original harness; it sounds like much less programming is involved with the new software and hardware and you simply spec out what your engine has to get great initial tunes.

Anyway, hi everyone and looking forward to thoughts here.

And thanks to Don for the heads up...

of course, my good friend from Vienna would say that. If this were a sound effects competition, I'd be taking Chris's advice...

ACTUALLY IM HERE IN CALIF AND NO ONE HERE KNOWS HOW TO CONFIGURE IT SO I SWITCHED TO LINKS
SIMPLE NOT YELLING
CAPS ARE SET FOR AUTOCAD

now Alan, that is not quite accurate ... Don Lawrence knows how to configure them quite well. since the discussion preceding was m30 based, i can only assume that your post is s38 related (total different animal) ... an engine which sir Don is not that fond of in a coupe.

I am running megasquirt in California. The support exists in California. The Dyno tuners in California know how to use megasquirt. I am running the basic tune for an s38 motor since I have an s38 crank s38 spec rods and pistons. The basic tune for the s38 comes with the megasquirt software which is why they call it PnP.

Wayne I think you'll be happy with the upgrade.
XO,
Mike

I don't know what extra features you're looking for, but I'm running a microsquirt unit in my 2002. I've been very happy with it. If you're just looking to get a more modern (and compact!) unit, it may be worth a look. The wiring should be super simple as well.

I’m sorry Alan but that is a ludicrous statement. There are 20+ megasquirt tuners (skilled amateur or professional) for every Link ecu tuner, regardless of what state you live in. There are folks like Don, Vern, and Sven for every vehicle manufacturer you can think of. An enthusiast from any auto community can provide the name of someone they know that works with megasquirt.

I wish you the best of luck with your tune and hope to see a video of the car under its own power soon!

Wayne - yes, time to upgrade. The PNP2 are Gen2 so apparently have some upgrades. Again, you might keep your conversation with Don going. I have only done the custom MS3 stuff. It looks like the PNP2 now has AC control. You will need to add some wiring and relays for this. Essentially the way it works is that you wire the 12 volts from the car AC control to the MS box (through a relay), then run wires from the MS box back to relays that control the fan and compressor. Within MS you can specify how much of an rpm increase you want with the AC on, what TPS position to shut it off at (i.e., at WOT you want if off because you are asking for as much power as you can get), how much more idle air to add, to turn on the fan or not with the AC (should be on when AC is on). I wired the fan and compressor separately so that I can have the fan come on if the engine needs some extra cooling regardless of whether the AC is on or not. Again, I am assuming all this can be done on the PNP boxes but am not absolutely sure. You might also call the guys at DIYAutotune and verify the AC features you would be getting. good luck.
