Tool Discussion

My set, original to my 1972 Bavaria. Missing channel pliers.
My small pliers have nothing on them, neither handle or at the joint. Looks like the Heyco and mm have worn off. All box wrenches have No350, all allen wrenches have Heyco.

These are my one owner April 1979 528i tools. Open and closed wrenches say BMW and w.-germany and 350 or 450, pin has a step at large end, small pliers no writing anywhere, large pliers say 300, small driver has plastic insert.

The verdict for Early Tools: small driver has metal insert, large driver no white lettering on handle and shaft is stamped with size, wrenches say no. 350/450, no BMW, all say w.-germany.

So, I am reminded of the elderly guy from the Czech Republic who accosted me at the Carmel by the Sea Concourse for not having my tool box properly assembled while displaying my car. I had some difficulty understanding him because he did not speak English very well, so he brought his absolutely stunning 30ish daughter over to interpret. Lo and behold, I was suddently very interested in his opinion of my car's shortcomings, and listened attentively while he provided me with a handful of suggestions for improvement.

That was four years ago. I wonder if that experience caused me not to improve the presentation of my tool box.

Chris,
That same man told me that my car was ugly and that I was fat. So I said “kurva tě !” And he left. So there you have it.

Ok. So I am missing the spark plug socket and the feeler gauge from my tool kit. I found the old 2014 post on this subject with the links for where to purchase replacements. I have had not luck with the links or the usual places. I did find the source for the Valve tool here (Bert). Any guidance?

I am using the part # for my 1972 E3 so it may be there under a different part number. It sounds like these tools were pretty universal. How late of an E3 or E9 would match?

These are the tools in my -72 3.0S, I wont speculate about what's original and what's not, but here are the pictures:

Robert, Thank you very much! Your six wrenches, the Allen wrenches, both pliers and red screwdriver are correct along with the large pin and tube socket. The large tube should have a metal clip inside to hold the spark plug. Yellow screwdrivers are not correct. I love those gloves, looks like they could be used in the garden! I will be creating a Tool and Jack FAQ soon.

Chris, you should have asked his daughter on a date and taken her to Harbor Freight!
