Toolkit insanity

It doesn't even have the Super Rare BMW 3.0 blue cloth with the BMW Logo on it.
Rant also deleted.

Totally ridiculous! Believe this overly optimistic seller has been hawking this "priceless" tool kit for the last few years now with no taker obviously. With the total "lack of interest", the starting bid price has actually gone up believe it or not.

I have never understood why an original toolkit is so important.
First of all the box is too weak to support them. Secondly, they contain items that nobody uses, and likewise, lack items which are much more important. Lastly, the quality of the tools is pretty poor. Get some good modern tools by Stahlwille or other top of the line producers.

OK, if you participate in Concours events, fine, but otherwise get a nice tool roll from Coupeking and fill it with what you need.... plus store other items in the grey box by the gas filler neck. Lots of postings about very useful parts to carry.

insane, insane !
but also some one over there is asking 500$ for a repaired empty tool-box !
and others 600$ for the two red screwdrivers !
inflation on e9´s parts !

I think if you just look at everything the seller has to offer it's just out of line with reasonable prices. Maybe it will or won't sell.

Tool Box

Almost embarrassed to post this...My box is missing the thumb screw (as well as all the tools) The solution...cheap dry wall hanger screw...Hey, it works. (Looks like some stainless hardware wouldn't hurt back here as well, not high on the priority list at the moment)

Regardless of what type and how many tools you have in the kit, always remember what the formerly great Art Wegweiser said:"Never drive around with the tools in the rack...it'll crack the lid sooner or later...keep your tools somewhere else until you have to go to a show."

Or don't put your tool chest in the boot and then close it...cracked the corner of the in-boot lid kit, not enough clearance. I'll repair it; there is a method I've read online somewhere that includes the paint color, Storm I think.

Toolbox preservation tips

For the screws holding the tool box in place:
Recommend the use of nylon washers to spread the load around each screw--I believe it to be a better solution than flat steel washers--less shock transmission when closing the lid.

+2 don't carry your tools in the box--use a separate tool roll.

An observation as to why these cars came with so many tools.

BMW was still emerging from the economic depths they had recently experienced. Their number of global service and repair stations were limited, however their cars were being distributed worldwide. Therefore, each car was equipped with the exact set of tools to perform the most likely DIY repair without having to travel great distances for many services that a reasonably capable owner could perform.

Tool kit

My tool kit disapeared, along with a number of other things, like hub caps and some exra switches, trim pieces, etc.. The stuff was in a box in the trunk while it was at a "restorer" shop. I never really noticed how much stuff was missing till a long time had passed, since it sat in that shop for about six months anyway. I guess the concept of what was mine and what was theirs got fuzzy. Now I look at what it would cost me to replace those tool kit pieces and the hubcaps, etc. and I wish I had taken more care.

It's funny, we have a classified section of this web site, we should have a barter section where we list any items we have to offer for trade. Maybe we could turn our piles of unusables into usables. Or just plan more swap meet "get togethers"..
