Gee, those prices aren't too bad. Not much more than you would pay for new generic tools.

I have been fooling around with putting together a reproduction tool kit for my '66 Alfa. The factory tool kit supplied with the Alfas was pretty simplistic: a canvas pouch, a few combo wrenches, screwdrivers, plug wrench, lug wrench. An original Alfa tool kit appeared on ebay about a month ago, and sold for $2,000 plus (which is a significant fraction of what the whole car sold for when new). A more recent auction, for just a handful of vintage Alfa tools, ended at $160 or so. By comparison, the tools from realoem.com seem like a great deal if they are close to original.

I don't know why people keep using Realoem, especially for pricing. The info is several years old now and is not updated.

you get a current price and a much better indication that the part is actually available.

Note that the tools are now $171.06 USD. These days Maximillian's prices seem to generally be below "BMW list". BMW parts prices have risen dramatically over the past year and from what I read, will continue to do so.
 
Is it really true that the tool kit itself is available, and for only $170?

I had thought they were unobtanium.

Has anyone bought one if they are available, and if so, any comments on the color, quality, fit, etc?
 
If it sounds too good to be true... It's an E28/E24 toolkit, with only the bottom half of a clamshell. My E28 had one just like it, which closed against the foam liner shown in the diagram glued to the trunk/boot lid. If you cross reference the part number given above, the following cars are referenced:

The Heyco tools with red plastic handles are not available from the dealer and have not been available from the dealer for many many years and likely will NEVER be available from the dealer :idea:

There's another thread on this forum where atan888 (aka twinturbo?) reported ordering "the toolkit" from a BMW dealer. Upon receipt, what he got was not the tool box loaded with red-handled tools :roll: . He got the tools only, similar in appearance, with GREEN plastic handles :oops: . As tools go they are probably fine. But for 170 bucks you can get a big ole set of craftsman tools which will last a lifetime and you never have to worry about using them ... or with judicious shopping you can piece together an original toolset one or two pieces at a time, as far as the tool box itself though you're on your own, unless you can wrench one away from the hoarding fingers of ANY of (us) usual suspects 8) .
