since you only 'rent' beer, the circuit opened when we had to return the beer.

There are two different switches. As pictured below. My trunk light works fine and it has the shorter of the two in the picture. There is nothing on my trunk hinge that is extended to contact the switch. I don’t know where or which models use the longer switch.
I just happen to have it in my parts stash.

Perhaps install a rubber bumper of sorts on the hinge arm to make the needed contact.

Thats exactly what I have done, until I get the longer switch button.

It's readily apparent then, that I have a problem with the length of my protusion. Just please don't spread this fact around.
