One can get these stainless steel sheet metal screws at most well stocked hardware stores such as ACE.

Trim Screws

You should try an automotive upholstery shop, they have all kinds of trim screws and generally pretty cheap.

and use small clear plasic washers to spread the pressure and reduce cracking potential

A # 8 sheetmetal screw at ACE turns freely in the hole and a # 10 won't go through the toolbox. I do think the originals were plated but they were long gone on my car. They didn't have any metric sheet metal screws.

Metric sheet metal screws are hard to come by. And I believe you need metric. Just because they are sheetmetal screw doesn't mean they fit the holes correctly. I've had a great deal of difficulty getting screws that fit in my door pulls.

Here are a couple of leads, I've not tried them yet

DeQ, can I buy a set? Or can you measure them and post the size?

You must be able to buy SS sheet metal screws every where over there.

Do you know what size are the door phlls? Specifically the ones that hold in the chrome cap and the ones that hold the small triangular piece with the chrome cap to the upright section

i have a good number of these metric sheet metal screws, in many different sizes, and when that finishes, the industrial hardware store is located next door

lets say that i remember using sligthly bigger screws for a better and stronger fixing

to tell you the truth i do not remeber which ones i ended up using, and that counts on the length also

those were ss screws with rounded phillips head, together with professionally home made 2mm thick rubber washers and ss washers on top, to respectively spread and accomodate the force

yes i will meassure them, and if convinient to you i can prepare a set

finally after some checks (mr ecchappe checked a 4,2mm hole in the sheet metal) i can confirm that the right size is a metric screw 4,5mm external thread diameter plus 20mm lenght

it can be fitted with small or big ss washers, i recommend the bigger ones for a better support

Hey deQuincey, thanks for putting the kits together for your fellow coupesters. One word of caution though, I suppose many coupes' tool tray fastening screws have been replaced at one time or another throughout the decades, just make sure the holes have not been enlarged already with bigger screws being used. It will be pretty frustrating to get the kit and find that the screws are too small.

Found two part #s for the screws in the orange parts book:

07 11 9 906 750--LIN BL SHR B 4.2X16mm
07 11 9 906 752--BL SHR B 4.2X19mm

Some revisions in the current white binder parts book.
