Trying to be a new e9 owner

You will need to source the rear panel and trunk lid, and get all that welded back in properly, then you will need to repaint the entire car, unless your paint guy is masterful at matching paint and paint texture.

I really wonder what else might be wrong with this car, if the rest was gone though and they stopped at that point (probably the easier metal work areas...). Two sequential sales own BAT also raise red flags...

This car was hit in the rear. You can see the ripple in the rear quarter, and a kink in the top of the rear fender. Also looks like major bondo work that is now all cracked around the deck lid corner (the skeptic in me wonders how much other bondo is lurking under the paint in other areas.... Deck-lid channel looks to be rusty, but that may just be from sitting outside. Not typically a rust prone area. Cloisonneé roundel is also missing on the C-pillar.

My guess is that repairing this will run about $20K plus paint and parts, perhaps more if there is a lot of other bondo repair work that has been done...At an asking price of $29K not a bad deal, depending on what the rest of the car is actually like.. God help you if they bondo-ed over rust up front....

Take a look at the one just posted in this thread / at first glance a way better clue for the price. Needs a close assessment with lots more photos but superficially a much better option I would say

That right rear quarter is a bit concerning. Odd place for rust. Hard to tell if that is an odd reflection, or some old fix that is now peeking through. if it is a crack, then that means bondo, and some prior poor repair.

Definitely worth a look though! At $50K if there are no major body issues, that's a deal... !!

I so agree with ScottAndrews on the previous car in question that has been hit in the rear. Those forces can transfer to many, unexpected places - not just the rear quarter. Given the abundant body filler that is visible, one must wonder about other shoddy work done to cobble that one together. Unless you are a master body/structure guy (or know someone), hidden heartbreaks ($$$$$) likely lurk in the shadows on that one.

Here's my story I do own an e9 I brought last year off eBay but seeing the car wasn't a great car and not a good candidate to dump money into I decided to look for a replacement. So in meantime I wrench a bit on my 1972 automatic until I can find the right keeper. Im still in the search but my business is getting bit more busy and funds we will moving into re so we will see. I'm still look for a budget car more or less not a full restored vehicle.
