I’ve got two e9 instrument clusters that I think it’s time to part with.

The first one is in excellent aesthetic condition - the temp gauge is hazy from the back and I don’t feel like disassembling to clean, but aside from that the unit is nearly flawless. It has two extremely small nicks on the bottom right of the tach and also to the right of the clock on the side (pictured) and two small nicks in the black bezel of the temp gauge. $850 plus shipping/insurance.

The second one is in fair aesthetic condition aesthetically. Serviceable, but some cracking in the veneer and wood and a little bit of chipping on the black bezels around the gauges, but otherwise complete. Euro speedometer. ***PICTURES OF THIS UNIT IN SECOND POST ON THREAD***. $400 + shipping/insurance obo.

I have not plugged these in at all so I can not guarantee mechanical condition, but everything appears in-tact.

you should note what the numbers are on back of the each of the speedos. there are different gearings based on the diff ring gear. they both look like they came from a 3.0cs, although the 3.0csi will have a different number. the long and short of it is the speedo is not plug in play in all coupes. ... i think there are 4 different numbers

Thank you for that information! So the number on the back of the super clean cluster is VDO 12/147/3 and there’s also W=1,207 and what appears to be a production date of 12.73z

On the fair condition one, it reads VDO 20/134/6 and W0.68 with a date of 5/72 (this is the euro speedo).

I can get any other numbers off the back that anyone needs.

Kai, the W numbers are the critical numbers and the ones that the buyer should verify is what is on their coupe. or they can send it to Palo Alto or North Hollywood speedo and get the gear changed to match their needs.

there is another thread which identifies what the W number should be to go with what diff ratio.

Gotcha! Thanks much for the info. I sure wish that 3.0 build had gone a different direction, but you live and you learn. Still got the M635 to play with (whenever I get it back from the Foundation) :)

If Gary doesn't have the correct numbers, i have several sets for a 3.0cs - but @asc_818, pull your speedo and see what the number on the back is. you might be able to put a cell phone behind there and take a picture. easier to try that than pull it. please remember, there are many different gears in speedos which is dependent on the diff gear ... as well as if its a mph or kph speedo.

look at the differential to see what numbers are on the case. for instance 12 39, translates to a 3.25 gear ratio. the numbers relate to the gear teeth. simply put big number divided by little number gives you the ratio.

here are some numbers on speedos that i have
w-0.679 = 3.25 diff (kph)
w-0.7125 = 3.45 diff (kph)
w-1.027 = unknown
w-1.078 = 3.25 diff
w-1.14 = 3.45 diff
w-1.2164 = 3.64 diff

i have
w-0.69 (dated 6/69 - mph - 2800cs colors)
w-0.67 (dated 8/73 - kph)
w-1.027 (dated 10/73 and 1/74 - mph) i have 2 of these

i have the full set for all of these - remember, 2800cs numbers are off-white, 3.0cs numbers are white.

Scott,

The speedo I have in a spare set of instruments is 1,207. I know the instruments came from a '74 model car. Production date is 1.74

Do you know what diff the 1.207 mates with?

Scott, Based on the progression of W ratios for MPH speedos, a 1.027 would be a 3.07 diff. Interesting as that isn't in the parts book and neither is a 3.07 diff which is e24 I believe.

Chris, right about now, i am wondering if i transposed the numbers ... will have to go out and look. i know that they came out of a late 73 / 74 model ... so i am presuming they are for a 3.64 diff.
