Type 61 wheels on an E9

Style 82 Wheels Like Type 61

I also like these wheels on a coupe. I looked very closely at the 61's but finally decided on the 82's. I cut and pasted them on a digital picture of my coupe to decide.

The 82's are the same dimensions and offset as the 61's and about the same price. I considered the Alpinas, but they have always looked a bit oversized on a coupe to me. I looked closely at the Hardy & Beck, and like them, but I didn't think they justified the price premium and maintenance. I drive my coupe a lot and don't like to have to worry about scrubbing expensive rims on a curb.

For me the decision between the 61's and 82's was a close call. To me the 82's look more muscular, but the 61's look more period correct. The 82's also fit perfectly. I run 205 55 16's but could run a 225 55 16 if my struts had not been modified to be adjustable. There is plenty of room in the back if you want to go even wider in a staggered arrangement, but I like to rotate my tires.

I have had mixed comments on how the 82's look on the coupe. Some really like them. Those who do not are the ones that remember the originals and early 5's, and prefer something more period correct.

I am attaching some pictures if you want to have a look.
