Hello

Can anyone recommend a brand and size of tyre for 16inch staggered Alpinas?
8 inch front & 9 inch rears, something that looks reasonably period correct would be great.

The original 14inch wheels came with Michelin XWX as standard

I would be grateful of any advise & opinions

Warm regards
Tom

Edit
HB Chris is correct they are
staggered 7” and 8” with the fronts et11 and rears et24

They period correct look versus handling is the dilemma! I was hoping for a compromise.

I still have the original 14inch wheels so can keep them in correct rubber.

Tom

If you would prefer a summer tire try the Continental Extreme Contact Sport.

I have been very impressed with them.

I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3's on my E38, E23 and now (compliments of a new set of wheels that were available at SFDon's shop) the E9 as well.
I have used these tires (or their earlier versions) on my BMW"s since the mid 2000's (probably 10 sets of tires purchased through the years).

Living where I do, summer tires would not handle the cold very well should I want to take the car out in the winter on a dry (but cold) day.
All season tires are well suited for all uses in that way.

And - no matter how good our cars are now (in suspension condition and such) - they are still 45/50 years old and (just about) any tire today would do as good as most performance tires from back then. But I still like putting on as good a set of tires as I can. Just because.....
That's my nickel.... or shilling.... lol

I once had a mechanic who always advised to get Michelins because in his experience they were "rounder" than other tires.

I went through the tire dilemma not long ago, and got good help from forum members. I'm basically in the same place as you climate-wise and so decided to get all seasons as well. The choice for 14" wheels is really dwindling these days, but as I was making a final decision I came to the exact same conclusion as you about modern tires - you'd have to get a really crappy modern tire to not at least equal the performance characteristics of the OEM tires back in the day.

If you want a deal
I just picked up a set of Alpina 16 x7 and 16X8 Pretty broke so I wanted to stay close to $500. I got out the door with Ca tax $490 for Hankook Ventus V2 Concept2 . I wanted to stay close to $500 and that was the best option I could find 225/50/16 and 205/55/16 Have not picked them up yet but hoping they will work out. If anyone has feedback I would appreciate it.

One more thing, this is what the experts on this site sent me. Not sure if your set up will work but you for sure are going to need to roll that front fender. I will defer to the experts on this site, but that is my understanding. I am going with 7" on the front and I have been told I will need to roll my front.
