uk 3.o csa value

That ad is an example of the understatement in action. Like flat battery...

A few strikes against it:

- Automatic
- Not run since 98
- 74
- Unknown rust state
- Unknown service history
- Shock towers painted black always a bad sign
- Are the rims TRX's?

A 5speed conversion would be 4-5k$, so that is he CSA penalty I would say.

That does look a nice car but not 20k. Its been stored dry which is a massive plus point due to e9s dissolving over night, will be tax exempt now due to our very nice prime minister beinga nice honest blok and theres nothing mecanicle on the car that connot be repaired. As long as the bodywork is fine, then im sure it will serve the new owner for a long time to come.
who ever does buy it, ive got 3 complete manual conversions kicking around the workshop, one of which is a dogleg sport one.
im going to keep an eye on this and drop the owner an email, it does look a straight enough car which unrestored and good condition is rare in the uk now days.

Well, from the few pics it's looks that rust could be the biggest issue here.

As Arde said "Shock towers painted black always a bad sign" together with advanced visible rust on typical places are the simplest way to say that thorough rust checking would be the first priority before even thinking for the next step.

Not worth 20,000 pounds....not even close, looks like a rust bucket and mechanicals will be questionable, you can buy a restored coupe in Germany for that money

Says he does not know what the car is worth but asks not to bother him with a few thousand pounds offers...

Says the car was bought by his Father in 1983 when the car was less than two years old yet the car is a 1974, hmmm 1974+2=1976.

The car was to be sold in 1998, but heck time flies and only in 2014 they realized the car was still there stored dry. How dry can it be if even the air filter cover has surface rust. Has the insight that an engine that was not run in 16 years may need some attention.

Good luck and apologies for my fool mood.

well I will see what will come of it.
As for value what would you say its worth

Let's work from the final value back and assume after you are done it will be worth 18.000 lbs.

Subtract:
- 5 speed conversion ~3k
- Refresh brake system ~ 2k
- Address rust issues (metal work and paint) ~5k
- Mechanical (fresh rubber, ignition, some suspension/steering) ~2k

That leaves 18-3-2-5-2 = 6k lbs of residual value

So it all comes down to getting a good picture on the rust condition. My numbers may be low but that is on both sides of the equation. If you send it to east Europe or Portugal my numbers may be high but I am opining on the project, not on labor arbitrage opportunities in Europe.

Value?

Why is there such a big discussion on this?

I do not understand how anyone can take the 'ultimate driving machine' or a 'drivers car' and try to sell it in NON driving condition. So many red flags jump up.

For a normal person this is one big headache and not worth more than 10k USD, really more like 5-6K...but lets be nice.

IF you are a flipper.....then that's probably why the market has changed so much, and you would be counting the dollars and cents towards reaching your 50-60k selling goal.

I am not trying to be unreasonable, but these ads make me feel unreasonable + you can find 10K to 30K Euro cars to compare this one with, and they are for better or worse, all in the same category.

what parts are needed and of what car are they sourced from

Thanks

Parts are from BMW, read: expensive or from good used parts or correct repros, it seems as if this may be your first jump into the restoration abyss?

You should pass on this car, my guess is that with English restoration prices you will spend several years and double the asking price to end up with a car you could find for less with some patience.

Critical comments from the forum members are due to the expensive mistakes most of us have made over the years.....our rusty scars are to your benefit.

18.000 lbs of what ? Jk

The ad on this car is typical of people who don't know what they are selling. I hope the OP gets and publishes enough data for a better analysis from the e9 coven.

74' is not a negative...

I would argue that a non USA 74 or 75 is the best of the lot (all other things equal)... a lot of small but nice improvements and I prefer the interior details.

Why is being a 74 a strike against it ?

My bad, I was thinking US Spec car with the big bumper, etc.

74 was a bad year to fill e9 tanks, right after the oil embargo with the sheiks flexing their collusion muscles in Vienna.

(Nota Bene: Colluteus or collusion muscle is a little known muscle in human anatomy whose use is forbidden in the United States but still permitted in a few other places).
