UK ebay x2 worth the money?

Hello Manish,
Welcome to the best E9 forum worldwide.
To answer your question............ Most definitely not, per my opinion.

There are many UK guys here that can guide you in looking for a decent coupe.

Ask any questions and this illustrated group will have an answer.

Again, only my opinion, the second shell i wouldn’t bother with, the first should cost half the asking price.

Patience is the most important factor whilst looking for an E9. They are extremely rust prone and the UK weather doesn’t help either.
And as i said before, the UK fraction is strong and very well versed with the coupe. Reach out to them and you’ll have all the guidance you need.

Hi Rohan,
Based in the Midlands just south of Birmingham and looking for a project car which I can restore myself. I am in no rush to buy or to finish the project as will be something I will take my time on. I currently have a budget of around £10k to get myself one in my garage, but don't want something that needs a lot welding etc.

I think to find something that doesn't need a lot of welding is a big ask for that money as it will need to be one that had a good restoration a while back and is therefore straight but rough looking - such a car is going to be £20-25k I think but I am not that in touch with non csl values. Steve is based up near you and might know of something but again for that budget you need to find one that is hidden away!

Good luck,

Rohan

Manish, welcome from a former Colony. I am afraid you have arrived late to the party. True Barn Finds are becoming rarer and rarer over here. And many more coupes were peddled here than in your UK. You do have the Continent across the Channel. But who knows what Brexit and Theresa have planned. No EU classics allowed for import. Just kidding as I watch GB's big mistake, my opinion, but nothing compared to our much BIGGER MISTAKE electing the Orange Man. Make that CATASTROPHE for us and the known world.

You are in good company, and if any blokes can find a hidden gem it is them.

Good Luck, Steve

Thanks Steve :)

Welcome Manish

I like your ambition to own a E9!!!!

Reality is your budget of 10k gets you a 2002 restoration project
Or
A used genuine Csl bonnet , 4 x Alpina wheels (with only 5 holes) for 10k.
Some one I know sold these last year !!

Best advice I can give you is increase your budget to 30k and buy yourself a very good driveable Cs/csa.

Or

Blow the budget at spearmint rhino lol

Do not buy a fcuked up bmw E9 with a rotten body .. why .. the car will make you cry !!
Good luck

Welcome to the forum,

10k I would say is very optimistic to find a good shell. They are few and far between and when they do pop up command strong money. The ones offered above that you've linked to are in my opinion over priced by over optimistic sellers hoping to cash out on the bubble these cars seem to be riding. That is not to say one is impossible to find, a few years ago at university I accidentally peer pressured my friend into buying a fairly clean rolling e9 shell for around 2500 on the premise that a good shell is MUCH harder to find than the parts that bolt onto it.

By and large, a 10k car will need 30k of work to get it anywhere near presentable, at which point you may have well as just saved yourself the aggravation and bought a good one.

If you're ever round London way feel free to pop over, my CS, complete with rot camouflaged into glorious 70s brown paint and combined with the complete and systematic destruction of any optimism I had will be enough to persuade anyone that a cheap CS will be more expensive than a good runner.

Manish, I wrote you a long post that never appeared. No idea what happened. Basically I said what Sandhu and Nosmonky are advising. The conventional wisdom here in
e9 land is buy someone else's restoration at around 2/3 the price. Or look at 2002s, specifically a tii if you can afford it. Kind of like what we in the Colony call a "starter home." One waits until the starter home appreciates, sells, and buys the home they really wanted. That worked here for homes until the Great Recession of 2007.

This approach is slowly coming back when it comes to homes, but it has continued to work for our Coupes.

Steve , just want to add , yes , he has "us" across the channel , but we have LHD instead of the UK RHD.... riding the "wrong" one isn't obvious.
Regarding prices.... it's the same. Here also 20k for a "acceptable " "complete" E9 ...for restoration.... 50k for a good runner , restored some years ago....
