I am not sure if this piece is desirable at all.
It seems like it was an original part but never saw it on @HB Chris car...

@Stan there are benefits to having this installed.
1. you don’t have one.
2. It does direct airflow through the engine bay and not out through the underside of the car.
3. It does help keep the engine bay clean.

I had one on my car and had no issues with it. I do believe it helped direct fresh air through the engine bay keeping the components cooler and I do believe it helped with drag.

Yes they were original but did not last long, they were made from pressed cardboard and did not stand up to the climate Took lots of them off over the years, can't say as they always went back on We started to cover them over with just fiberglass resin mixed up, it made them last awhile longer They do work at keeping the engine a bit cooler and somewhat cleaner The Turner one looks kinda home made the one from W & N looks pretty good

Thanks, Rick

Here's some pics of an original one. It is for sure different compared to the "Genuine BMW panel" as shown on the W&N and Turnermotorsport pages.
Notice it does not have the the strengthening depressions (ridges) running front to back as the reproductions do.

The original should be mostly flat in the front to back direction (left to right in image below) but my part has some curve to it due to incorrect storage by PO. (it is now in a simple 3D wooden frame, letting time do it's work to get it back into shape)
The original also has curved metal pieces clamped inside and around the radius for stengthening; visible in the detail image below.

for attachment there are speed clips mounted on the part, covered with some flexible glue.

I looked into this at one time and decided not to bother given the likelihood that the part would have a short life. Mike's comment about airflow has me rethinking this given that I am drawing air into my carbs under the hood.

I just ordered one from BMW $296.00 minus the BMW CCCA discount
