Got the coupe back after I returned from Stan's and I am really pleased with the work done by Dr. Detail in Costa Mesa. I realized I could never get the underside looking this good laying on my back and it was the only aspect of my coupe that didn't fit with the rest of it's appearance. Wheel wells are now body color and floor is grey undercoat both as originally delivered, subframes, struts, backing plates were also painted and I added a few of my gold plated nuts/bolts. They even got above the driveshaft and rear subframe, also pulled the gas tank. My coupe gets driven regularly, it is never going to be some kind of garage queen, it's even been driven in the rain!

I choose to paint the frame rails which would have been undercoated.

Wow,The Dr. did wonders with that face lift! Any before shoots and what was the cost roughly? Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful Chris. You have set the bar high!! My favourite view of any car!

Jealous

Chris,

It looks great! I think it's also wise to weigh the cost of having someone do the work you spec out as opposed to doing it yourself. I was lucky enough to have a lift, but with the time I spent I think I could have gotten a job at McDonald's and had someone else do it and still had enough left over for a latte!

I'm getting real close on mine, just putting the carbs back on, and all the goodies then it's out for paint (something I would never attempt myself). {thinking McDonald's again}. Another outsourced portion will be the interior (or most of it), then I'll b running with you "big dogs"!!

Cost? Hmm, cough, cough, ughh.....

More than I wanted but in the end worth it, $2500. And no receipt for the good wife to find!

Chris,

it looks fantastic, and you know it was worth every penny. they did a fantastic job. for anybody who hasn't seen or ridden in Chris' coupe ... it looks better in person than these nice photos show.

some of those parts must be new ...

That looks too good for a steam clean and new undercoat.
The "push rods" going from the subframes up to the floor look brand new.

Stan, maybe we should caravan out there together someday.

No new parts, just a few nuts. Believe me, one of the guys spent five days with his head in a wheel well or under the car scraping, brushing, sanding, masking and painting. I gave him a very good tip.

Very nice! Now you have to carry a long skinny mirror everywhere you go and casually slide it under the car at every occasion
