Hi all, I was just wondering if anyone had put E24 axles on the E9 to improve handling? I cannot find any real information on it, and E24 is too short a search term for the board which limits the searching for it.

I know it is an unorthodox question but me and Miklos were discussing next steps for the Taiga with M88 and the topic of handling and braking came up. With E24 axles there should be better rear handling and it would be easy to add ABS. It looks like it is doable without too much work, especially since since the car is being fully restored. I know this takes the car away from original and it is maybe not necessary for normal driving but it is always fun to brainstorm and learn. ABS would be a nice addition for general safety and does not look very hard to do and could even be possible on the original axles, I found a company that 3D prints tone wheels so I could get some that fits on the E9.

Thoughts?

When you say “axels” I assume you mean installing an e24 rear subframe including trailing arms, axels, differential, brakes etc.

It is possible, and has been done. The ABS would take some work but if you use knuckle risers in the front to mount e24/28 ABS struts that will give you most of the hardware. The knuckle risers I have were made by VAC in Philadelphia PA.

The rear, you will need to find an early e28/24 chassis rear diff cover for center mount and modify the upper shock housings to take Bavaria/e12/24/28 upper shock spring mounts.

I am actually installing Abs. I used the battery space for the Abs Hydraulik Block and remachined the rear axle hubs to fit an self made Abs Ring and constructed an Sensor holder- using all E9 parts without welding or drilling holes. Same at the front axle. The Abs Control unit ist located below the Windows shield in the right side. Within the next few weeks I try to Finish the wiring Part and then I can do the first braking test.

For better performance and increased motor power I would use a very small racing Abs Module. It could maybe fit below the m88 intakte.

Hony

@johanaxelson - if you want to search our lovely site, I've come to the conclusion that using google works just better then our own forum search function. Just include 'e9coupe forum' in your google search term, and something will show up.

True, that should work, but is a little limited. Allowing a 3 character search should not add too much load?

Thanks, many seem to use the BMW MK60 module, it was used in the E46, including the M3. The below guys did not finish the work but lots of others have used it from what Google tells me.

There are also Bosch kits, but they are a bit pricy : https://xtramotorsport.com/product/bosch-motorsport-abs-m5-clubsport/
