Hi, I’ve recieved my log book (v5) for my recently purchased e9 coupe and the d.3 model section is blank. I’ve contacted bmw classic they’ve confirmed it’s a bmw 3.0cs. Slightly annoying as I bought it with the understanding it was a csi. Still I wanted to know what it should say exactly under the model section on v5. If anyone can assist I’d appreciate it. I will attempt to get dvla to update the v5 with the correct model designation.

a quick check on the chassis numbers listed on here identifies it as a 1974 3.0 CSA

Should it read?

3.0 CS

3.0 CSA

or even

3.0 CSi

Can anyone clear this up for me ? Thanks

RHD 3.0 CSA or CSiA depending on which database is correct ... i have heard other 4330xxx cars had carbs, so are you a 'carb' car or an injected car?
out of curiosity, what is the color of your car?

It’s not injection. There’s not much original to the car so might not of been injection back in the day. It’s blue. Baikal blue metallic to be precise. What database says it’s csiA?

i agree, its just that old summary on the registry that shows 4330 as a CSiA. i have never heard of a CSiA.

so here is the way i believe the '74 series really is

4300 - 3.0 CS
4305 - 2.5 CS
4310 - 3.0 CS (USA)
4315 - 2.5 CSA
4320 - 3.0 CSA
4330 - 3.0 CSA (RHD)
4335 - 3.0 CSA (USA)
4340 - 3.0 CSi
4350 - 3.0 CSi (RHD)
4355 - 3.0 CSL (Bat 2)

I think the confusion originated with BMW themselves as they actually produced an Owners Handbook for the CSi Auto

James, 433 cars are all series 2 RHD automatics. Records at the time were handwritten and many logbook will state different things. For instance my car (chassis 4330072) has nothing under model designation but make is listed as "BMW 30 CSA". There will be some variations, some may be down as BMW, some with model as 3.0CS or 3.0CSA, but essentially whatever the sales administrator at the dealership at the time wrote and if the person at the DVLA licensing office was wearing glasses or not.
