Well, the Warhol M1 is priceless, BMW will never sell it and only a few selected people are allowed to move it with gloved hands.

Warhol was the only artist to actually paint the car at the time. Like his silkscreen paintings the car has a lot of texture and paint thickness creating a lumpy surface.

I consider only the cars that actually raced as Art Cars. While the other cars BMW comissioned are art for art's sake.

The picture is from 2013 when the car was in the Saratoga Auto Museum's BMW exhibit. I also saw it at Lime Rock in 2002.

This one was purchased by Southhampton BMW and is on permanent display in their showroom:

Price they paid in 2011 seems like a steal compared to the one presently for sale.

That car is now in Peter Gleeson's (BMWPete) collection at Munich Evolution. He aquired it in August 2014. If you are on Facebook, you can follow his aquisitions and adventures.

I saw the Warhol car in Saratoga 1-1/2 years ago. Beautiful up close. IIRC the video presentation in the adjacent room showed that it only took him about 20 minutes to paint the car.

The Stella M1 has moved. It now resides in the Northwest when not out at shows/touring.
