Greetings,

Its been a very long time since I have posted here, glad to see the community growing. Question for anyone, what's the best way for me to get my E9 appraised or evaluated? I am considering selling my '69 2800cs but not sure where to start price wise. I have been looking around and the prices range from 20 to 90 thousand.

Thanks in advance,

Gus G.

hey Gus,

what part of Houston are you in?
i am sure the group here can help you narrow down the range if you would be willing to post a few pics of your 2800cs. if its a '69, then it has to have a very low VIN. as you might have seen, prices on 2800cs are on the rise. according to Hagerty
condition 4 = $37,800
condition 3 = $65,500
condition 2 = $121,000
concours = $175,000

1. Concours

#1 vehicles are the best in the world. Imagine the best vehicle, in the right colors, driving onto the lawn at the finest concours. Perfectly clean, the vehicle has been groomed down to the tire treads. Painted and chromed surfaces are mirror-like. Dust and dirt are banned, and materials used are correct and superbly fitted.

2. Excellent

#2 vehicles could win a local or regional show. They might even be former #1 vehicles that have been driven or have aged. Seasoned observers will have to look closely for flaws but will be able to find some. The paint, chrome, glass and finishes will all appear as excellent. The vehicle drives as a new vehicle of its era would.

3. Good

#3 vehicles drive and run well but are not used for daily transportation. The casual passerby will not find any visual flaws, but these vehicles might have some incorrect parts. #3 vehicles could possess some, but not all, of the issues of a #4 vehicle, but they will be balanced by other factors such as fresh paint or a new, correct interior.

4. Fair

#4 vehicles are daily drivers, with flaws visible to the naked eye. The chrome might have pitting, the windshield might be chipped and perhaps the body has a minor dent. Imperfect paintwork, split seams or a cracked dash might be present. No major parts are missing, but there might be non-stock additions. A #4 vehicle can also be a deteriorated restoration.

Thanks for the info! I had not seen that before and it will help me.

I am in San Antonio now, I just updated my profile.

My E9 is in original condition, no restoration or modifications, and is a matching numbers. Its been garaged the last 25 years. It does have its issues but not bad. I drive it on the weekends when I can and keep it running. Here are some pics of its good side. IF anyone is interested in the issues i can also take those pics. I also have the original sales receipt from Germany and the all the maintenance records from the original owner, I currently misplaced them and I am looking for them (We recently moved). It was imported from Germany in 1995 by a service member.

No a/c and must be a euro vin but side marker lights were added, US cars were 1970 MY. Check BaT, all e9 sales are listed, find a comparable 2800CS. A prior owner added the e12 Turbine wheels?

looks very reasonable from what we can see. so depending on what the issues are, this could be a good find for somebody. i love the 2.8L engine in the coupe.

Can't tell...sunroof?

No front PW; slight negative.

Hard to say w/o more pictures, but ya, look on BAT for previous sales of 2800CSs. Compare like condition with your's.

Silver/blue a nice color combo too.

HI Chris,

Yes its a Euro model, it was imported in the '90s. The rims that you see in the pic are just rollers that I use, I have the originals just never had time to get them restored. The side markers where added when it was imported per U.S. Specs. My plan was to remove them.

Dash wood looks healthy. Often a noticeable weak area. Looks like a great example. ;)
Bluecoupe30,

The interior is in great shape, the wood is in excellent condition except for a small corner. I decided to leave it alone and it shows the original "patina". Since the coupe is always garaged the interior hasn't suffered from the sun or rain. My plan was to restore the coupe and leave the interior as is.

HI Teahead,

Yes there is a sun roof, I rarely open it and no front power windows, just rear power windows.

Instead of sending DMs to everyone that's asking for specific pics I'll just post them here for all to see.

looks awesome! However, most E9s are judged by how it looks on the underside.

Good luck, but she should bring at least $60k if not too rusty underneath.

It is very difficult for someone to price (or buy) a car without inspecting it in person. In order for a couple of E9 experts here to give you a ballpark price would probably take 100-150 (pro quality) pictures including many of the typical rust areas and all the "warts". In addition, a multi page write up would be needed completely describing the car from top to bottom, in and out.

This sounds like a daunting task, but it will have to be done anyway if you plan to list the car to potential buyers that are not local. Put yourself in the position of a buyer. What would YOU want to see in order to be serious about the car?

You can take the pictures (or have them taken) and post them in an online photo album. The detailed description can be posted on Google Docs.

It's easy to buy a car...it's tough to sell one.

This indeed is an early 2800CS as it has the ashtray in the dash rail with the smaller glove box door and it has the rain gutters in the trunk that sit below the rear windshield.

My '69 is 2201984, Polaris and blue. Your car looks a little nicer than mine but I'll be following your sale.

Nice! how ling have you had yours? it looks very similar to one a guy owned in the bay area. He had it restored and restomoded. I love the way it looks without the stupid side markers. Mine was right in front of yours on the assembly line.

I've had it for almost 15 years. Mine has been restored in the past but completely stock. Funny about the 911, it's a car that my wife has always wanted and reminds me often.

well Dan, you are in a unique situation - a 911 for the wife, that you get to drive occasionally and a coupe for you.
