Vasek Polak Manhattan Beach BMW license plate frame

Wow, pricey piece of bling especially when it falls only into that “if you know you know” category for the locals alone. But nifty.
 
So which version is more desirable? Manhattan Breach or Hermosa Beach?

Vasek Polak moved across Pacific Coast Highway from the east side which is Manhattan to the west side which is Hermosa between March and April of 1970. My 2800 was sold by him in April 1970 with the Manhattan frame and the dealer service book is stamped Hermosa. That frame is for the front plate with the thicker frame on top, if used on the rear of covers part the Month/Year stickers. I have never seen one of the front ones, uber rare and worth his asking, I have a guy who will rechrome pot metal for $150. And yes, that is the original plate that was issued to my car. 1970 was the first year for the blue plates and the first time you did not turn in your old plates so 63 to 69 cars could keep their black plates. It is assumed that the SoCal BMW dealers found out which DMV office had the BMW plates and secured them for their best customers as the dealers did all the work back then.

John, You have the correct early Vasek plate frame with the squat letters up top, later version had a taller font and were used up through late 80s. They are unobtanium now and I used to buy them them for $200 but not anymore. Porsche guys would pay $1,000 for their equivalent frame.

Nice bit of history there I guess. And given that there are so many of these cars in CA I guess it’s relevant for a fair number of E9 owners…
