VDO oil temp sender problems

somebody placed a Chinese knockoff built out of programable logic
Fake IC’s from China is a major problem in my industry. During the depths of the chip shortage, we had to check every batch and caught/rejected fakes. We could not get sufficient commitments from the chip makers themselves, and to buy on the secondary wholesale market. Clearly, some wholesalers were either complicit in asking for fakes or unwilling to question things too good to be true.

Maybe I should’ve said, “supply grows to meet demand.” IOW, market pull motivates production of knockoff parts. If nobody bought the fakes (consumers and resellers) , the mfg of fakes would stop making them.

Well there is always market demand for something, a medicine, a car part, an airplane part, a Gucci, a Rolex. Yes, if nobody bought anything there would be no demand and no fakes... but that blame logic is absurd. Any demand is at fault.
The push side is more credible, players that are morally and structurally inclined to satisfy market demands without considering laws, safety, and fairness, will always find a way to market something.

Many many years ago I hired a Field Applications Engineer in Asia, his previous job was to copy transistor by transistor the layout of American semiconductors. He was happy to work for my team in the US and reduce his work hours to just 12 a day...

I feel this thread has been hijacked.

Back on point, the sender is measuring temperatures in alignment with the gauge. I confirmed the accuracy of the gauge/sender by using a candy thermometer directly into the oil sump. (EDIT: I previously tested the candy thermometer and it is very accurate for this purpose). I was getting only a few degrees difference at any moment. I am very happy with this setup and its accuracy. We now have a solid measurement for the heat this beast produces, and can compare metrics as I make edits to the system(s) to provide additional cooling.

Sorry for talking air cooled stuff on this water cooled forum (save for any 700 owners out there). :)
