Hey guys, had a look at the VIN numbers on the e9 driven page and my CS (VIN 4330072 apparently makes it a 3.0CSiA RHD. According to a BMW VIN decoder on another site, it was built in November 1973 and was originally an automatic (was converted to 4spd manual at some point), however the e9 registry says only 69 cars beginning with the 433 VIN were made in 1973. I can see no evidence of there being an injection unit in the vehicle (no wiring harness or disconnected wiring) and the vin plate reads 3.0CS. Unsure whether this would make it a CSA or CSiA. The logbook reads the vehicle make incorrectly as BMW 30 CSA, with no field in the vehicle model section and is listed as a manual so at one point in time the logbook has had details amended.

Anyone able to shed some light on this? I am right in thinking that all automatic RHD vehicles began with the 433 VIN or did the RHD CSAs have a different prefix?

Thanks in advance,

Ahmet

The build dates of the VINs are not sequential. Yours could have been completed prior to 4330062 and therefore a 1973 build. Yes, it is a CSiA based on the VIN, the decoders are not accurate, you can not rely on them. Send an e-mail to the BMW Archive, contact info on the Registry Page, bottom left corner.

The VIN plates are not specific, an Auto will not say CSA, they all say CS.

There were rumored to be only 1or 2 left hand drive CSi automatics, were all RHD auto coupes CSis as our Registry says or were they carbed coupes? I do not know. I hope this helps.

Look under right rear seat to find evidence of the ECU mounting if it's a CSi. The harness came through the frame rail to passenger compartment.

Appreciate the help guys, I've sent an email to BMW, will have a look at ecu mounting points when I'm next at the workshop.

Am I wrong ?

As we all know on this site, 3.0 CSI Auto were (supposedly) built in 2 items.
Then came Orangener on this forum, who discovered one Inca 3.0 CSi A , confirmed by BMW .
This making the "not-sure" info , a real certainty . (BMW chose to keep secret the VIN of the other one.)

I just wanted to know where you had the info tha VIN 433 was a CSiA ?

According with below datas
430XXXX are 3.0 CSA LHD
433XXXX are 3.0 CSA RHD
For date of prod, plse see below.

Hope this helps...

Csi

The UK concessionaires has a policy that all injected e9s were manual and all carbed were autos. A similar policy extended to the e3 with the exception of the roll out model the 3.3Lia which was injected and an auto. I will see if I can find the date of this policy. According to the orange book the car is a1973 model3.0csa RHD. The chassis numbers allocated for the series are 4330001 to 4335000. Obviously they didn't use all the allocation.
