I'm trying to find some info about the 3.5 motor in my 73CS. The chassis and motor should both have the same VIN - the only number I can find on the block is stamped where the starter attaches. I sent the 8 digit (41244087) to Mobile Tradition thinking this is a VIN that they could contect to the donor car VIN - no luck. Is here another location on the block I haven't seen?

If you have a 3.5l donor engine and want information...

Thank you for your reply.

Engine numbers were always stamped on the engine, but from the late
70's/early 80's they were different from the chassis numbers. These engine
numbers were now made of eight numbers, not seven as they were before. This
does not concern the E3 models, they always had the same seven-digit numbers
on engine and chassis originally. Unfortunately it is no longer possible to
connect the eight-digit engine numbers to a certain car.

Nevertheless we hope this is helpful for you.

Yours sincerely,

Andreas Harz
