Has anyone purchased and installed the large/thick rubber seal that contacts the very rear of the hood from W & N. It is just ahead of the windshield, and has a curve at both ends, flowing about 6" on either side toward the front of the car.

I'm asking because mine is a bit ratty compared to all the rest of the engine compartment seals, and W & N has it on sale until 3/30/16. I have a price from them, including shipping and without VAT of ~$67, more than half of which is for shipping!

IF you've bought their seal, does it fit well and flow around the curved end sections OK????

I've read on this forum that some replacement seals for this application do not fit well.

I don't want to replace a good fitting but slightly deteriorated seal with a new one that doesn't fit and look good.

THANKS for any experience and or comments.

I can't comment on their seal, but when you get one I suggest not gluing it in, it will fit onto the metal lip and stay in place but can be removed for cleaning and drying the metal underneath if it gets wet.

W&N rubber

Several years ago I collected one from them. Neat place to visit BTW.
The colour was wrong but it fitted ok. The down side is it fell to bits (perished and split in many places) in a couple of years despite being in my cool dark garage. I now have another one from them (correct colour) but have not got around to fitting it yet.
Caveat emptor.

probably yes mr. hbchris
walloth has mainly two sources, bmw and their own reproductions, if it is a bmw part, ok, if it is a w&n reproduction it might not equal the quality
i bought this part from w&n many years ago, it was a bmw part, but it was not NOS, it was black and it has no hollow cavities to accomodate the three central bolts that hold the plate on top of the heater, it worked well
then two years ago i bought a NOS part, dark grey and with the mentioned cavities
as stevehose mentioned i did not glue this part, it fits in the front metal lip and stays there pretty well

Thanks guys for the comments. I decided to order it, as I could order a couple of other small things as well with no additional shipping charges. Made it potentially a good 'value' in the end, but won't know until the parts arrive.

Cheers,

cstrickland,

Yes, I installed it and it looks very good. It took me about 3 attempts to get a procedure that worked and looked good! Do a search for this (or my posts), as I provided a write-up of the successful procedure, along with some pix. Contact me in about 2 weeks if you want more info (I'm traveling and don't have access to the info on my home PC or the car.).
