Hey All,

I saw that Walloth sells most (if not all) of the belt trim. Anyone bought from them? I've been planning to send them to Speedway Metal Refinishing but if Walloth is good, maybe I will just get new ones.

New ones have been reported to fit marginally, especially the rear ones with the curve to the trunk lid.

I would redo them, having the originals on the car is always a nice thing I personally think.

Let us know if you do opt for new ones from Walloth, and how they fit.

Given the consistency of metallurgy in the 70's(sheet metal stamping), and assuming you liked how they fit before removing them I would think you're in a much better spot to refinish the proven pieces.

I bought a bunch of trim from them, not belt trim. All fit nicely, most was actually BMW NOS, had the labels still on.

was this recently? could you share which trim pieces you purchased from them?

one of our ATL coupsters bought a rear quarter panel belt trim within the last few years from BMW. it was a perfect match to the original shape. i have a pair of the previous trims from BMW (8 years ago) that are radically different and basically wall art as they will never fit on my car. haven't seen any of the other belt trims

I bought belt trim for my E3 in 2013, some of the last stuff BMW had. Any belt trim that had a curve on it was off and a PIA to fit.

Posix, see HB Chris comment above but to answer your question, all alum trim along the top and sides of the windows and the long drip edge trim on both sides. I used all the original belt trim as advised on this forum.

@bavbob, that would be around the same period that i bought the rear quarter belt trims for my coupe ... that's what pushed me into having mine refinished by Speedway. i am encouraged by the ones that were bought recently ... but not enough to go drop a bunch more money to find out if they fit.

The 2002 belt trim which is much thinner and softer fits even worse as does the 2002 stainless reproductions which is impossible to fit.

the old belt trim will have to be cleaned of old anodization and if corroded will have to be finished/ linished quite deeply ... this can distort your originals....

I have done both - and the new ones fit fine....
I made the mistake of getting them re anodized – waste of time

I am in search of an alternate to Speedway here in the NE. I had gone to a local place and interestingly, the owner had a note from a place we all know in N.H. concerning BMW trim renewal. At present these guys are unable to cerakote the largest pieces of trim however. They did do my side rondels for free after polishing my threshold moldings.

@bavbob - keep us posted on what you find. with VSR in your neighborhood, i am sure they will push to find somebody in your region ...
shipping across the country for that size box has become expensive, but a few years ago, i found somebody locally to polish but would not cerakote ... and their price to polish was more than Speedway and shipping. so i sent to Speedway

I have a new set of belt trim from W&N on my CSL and the fit is perfect. Must add that the car has no bondo that has changed the curves:) This can often be the main reason for poor fit.
