Hi guys, I am after the two pieces that go either side of the vents and either side of the gear lever surround. Anyone got nice ones to save me recovering mine?

I have searched long and hard for half decent ones! If you go along the recovering route I would be intrested as mine are in need of doing.
BTW I have some NIB e3 ones where the black plastic has split in sotrage so its a common problem.

You'll want to specify if your car has AC or not...I'm assuming not.

I actually had a good interior guy make new ones (since I was converting from non-AC to AC and couldn't find any decent ones). The cost was reasonable, and the result was phenomenal. Something to consider.
You might check with Tom "whalem6", I think he has some, not sure about their condition though.

I have both right and left for non A/C in good shape, will try to post a pic this weekend.

I don't know how to get the correct grain, but for me the main problem with refinishing them is getting the center seam correct. Ive been researching this and as near as I can tell, there are two options:
1. You can have your local trimmer re-cover them, but you need to use the thinnest material you can find. Getting that seam right, especially where the pieces meet the dash, is hard with thick material. Mine were done with a thicker material and it looks like crap.
2. Just Dashes seems to be able to vacuum form vinyl to the sides with results that look pretty good. The original pieces look to have been done this way by BMW, as near as I can tell. Ive heard they do good work, but its neither fast nor cheap.
Id love to know if others have found a better solution. Every time I look at mine it drives me nuts.

a 4 way vinyl( streach). Been out for a few years.
Second option is to remove the backing off two way vinyl by soaking in a certain solution.( TSP IIRC)
Do some research on the custom audio installs. Those are the guys that came up with ways to do intricate installs.

After completing the majority of a 13 hour drive back from The Vintage under hellish temperatures (90-97) I'm committed to installing AC in the coupe.
What's been holding me back is this issue of correctly and perfectly covering the console sides, which I have but need recovering.

I have been doing small projects covering with vinyl for years and may be able to either recover or give suggestions. I need to see pictures of what your are looking for and may even have the sides in my vast inventory of parts.

Koopman, thanks for your reply. What I'm looking for is simple; the same level of finish on the AC console sides that I have on my existing and original non-AC sides. I have a pair of AC console sides but they need to be recovered in black vinyl that matches the exiting vinyl, and more importantly, get the faux stitching on the front to match the OEM stitching.

My upholstery guy uses the correct German vinyl with the correct French seam.
Not that expensive and is wonderful to see and touch.

I paid 225 for left, right and shift console in correct vinyl . I will get you a pic of Jabberjaw when I get a minute.
Looking forward to seeing the pics. I also would like to have mine redone as they are split at the top where it curves back to the dashboard.
