Anyone thinking of selling their E9 (Be it a 2800, 3.0 CS, CSi or CSL)??

Drop me a PM.

Please let me know with pictures. brief description of the car both good/bad and the price.

On the hunt for another car and wanting something that has been restored properly.

Thanks for your time

These are very much ballpark figures and all depends on the car Both good and bad points taken into consideration.

Circa £35 for a CS/A

Circa £50 for CSi

Upto £110 for a CSL (Based on one that sold the other day which was done very well and others in similar condition)

Thxs for the above info, these guide prices will not buy a concours car, but will get you a very very good , used car, with potential to make it a concours car, if you wish go that direction

I will make some enquiries , contact people I know that where thinking about selling their E9 last summer, and I will pm their details to you directly , for you to call them

Hi.

Thank you for your replies.

I'm planning to see the silver CSI this week.
I'm hoping the lack of engine bay pictures isn't a sign that it needs remedial works.

Here's hoping it's in good order!!

Great news. Hopefully this puts your mind at rest. As I say, I always really liked the look of the car (from the pics). I really hope it is decent!

Thank you!!

Looks in good shape.

I never look forward to putting my hand into the support panel opening and scoop out lots of debris

That's always the litmus test for how well its been looked after, how soon it will need repairs and how knowledgeable the owner is of the cars design idiosyncrasies.

I will let everyone know my findings.

@Obsession btw whereabouts in London are you? I'm down in the South East but there are lots of us around this way (and other like @sandhu who are always happy tho travel).

Fingers crossed, covid depending, you might be able to join us at the next "Londonish" meet I organise…pictures of last year's event:

Im in Sutton, Surrey. So let me know when the next meet is going to happen.

Whether Im lucky enough to have an E9 by then. Who knows. I may have to gate crash in something else (if I can get them done in time) Nothing as beguiling as an E9 though

I had the pleasure of meeting Ramy (the Inka Keeper) to look over Davids Inka E9 Resto Mod.

He is a passionate, genuine person and hope ill be joining you once this horrible situation begins to ease.

You would be welcome in any car! Ramy is a lovely fellow.

If you PM me your telephone number, I can add you to our WhatsApp group if you like. But no pressure.

I went to see the Siver CSi...

My honest opinion.

Its due another complete nut and bolt rebuild now.

It needs taking it all back to bare metal, epoxy primer. rebuild.

The rebuild was done in 1993. Thats 27 years of use and old technology and materials.

The waxoyl like underseal is flaking off. There is surface corrosion underneath in places. Rear arches have small welded patches.

Its the goto material for old school restorers. Its hideous. It traps moisture and it rusts from the inside out,

Inner wings have arch liners so can only assume they will need work and are corroding.

Front floorpans looked a touch crispy and rusted out in the circular stampings.

(Bank on new floorpans soon)

Engine fired up and was misfiring badly. probably on 4 cylinders.

Air filter bracket was bent hence its jaunty angle.

The VIN plate was missing.

Rear boot sides were carpeted with Wilton carpets apparently. more like MFI.

There is signs of glass fibre resin and matting? around the boot aperture. Couldn't figure out why it would be there. Quite the discovery and corrosion in all the seams everywhere

It has a hand made fuel tank. Maybe for more range but a surprise to see.

The underneath, Any extremities, rear tow hook, the edges of the arches, Suspension components. the chassis rails all had corrosion.

Bonnet was wonky and hitting the wipers. The right hinged arm was bent and the left edge looked like it had filler which was starting to "blow out"

It has deteriorated since the photos

Seam sealer was heavy handed and flaking.

Its a daily driver waiting to have another £50K+ spent on it where it matters...underneath.

I'm off to see something 80's and very moustache orientated and another one of its descendants.

Then. I can make an informed decision.

I really want another E9, as aching beautiful as it is, or maybe something that's a bit more modern with less propensity to want to turn into iron ore?

Its that time bomb feeling.

Anything exotic will cost you a £100 a gear change.

Buy an E9.

It also costs you a £100 a gear change, but it does it with the skill of a con man who makes you feel good about yourself as you're being lied to.

Wow @Obsession comprehensive write up.

sorry to the hear the car is far far worse than it looks in the pictures. I really thought it was going to be an alright car.

Anyway does explain why it’s been on the market so long I guess.

Is this the car you looked at?

Yes.

It looks nice on the outside. Patina on the inside.

Underneath. It looks solid but take the underseal off and you will find its corroded and will need work.

It was restored by a restoration shop but not someone who specialised in E9's.

Theres notes from the restorer saying. Ive saved you X amount of money on the carpert
Slightly jarring compared to the listing: "totally rust free example"

How disappointing!
:(
Typical car dealer chat. Nice guy. But. I can feel lies from car dealers and that general schmoozing they do. His father and grandfather are car dealers. He did brand design so his set up is nice and he has cool cars. Eclectic. But.. Seeing someone come in to view the E9 as I entered and saying he'll think about it, then watching someone else come into see a TR6 and the potential buyer look over the paper work and ask about delivery. He appeals to the low hanging fruit that is passing trade and people with more money than sense who need immediate gratification... As opposed to rolling about on the ground looking at the car from the ground up and realising shiny new paint hides a lifetime of sins, rust. Repairs and neglect. I would make him an offer but I have other cars to see and it would be very low.

Shame about the Silver one Aktar! @Obsession even if you don’t find the one you’re looking for, you are more than welcome to come and join us at the meets once we’re allowed. @Rek hasn’t turned up to the last couple in his one so no-one will mind/notice you are sans-e9
