Well I've stumped a couple of Coupe guys with this one.

Does anyone know what this is and exactly where it is supposed to go inside the wheel arch area?

Next to a 1/4" drive 10mm socket

I think that is one of the plastic plugs that goes into various holes under and around the car, for example, if you take the carpet out I think you will find 2 or 3 plugging holes on the inside of the rocker, in the rear wheel arch where there are inaccessible cavities you will find 2. I think there is one up front as well, these I think allow access to treat those sealed-in places. Many of them are covered in factory seam sealer.

Thank you Peter, I couldn't find any hole in the wheel well that was of similar size. I'll check inside the car.

I did asked Mr. Macha what his thoughts were, unfortunately his suggestion on what to do with it was rather graphic and involved chewing gum.
 
pull up the carpet above the rocker panel tunnel, there are some similar looking access plugs there...

Funny that the pic shows it in the wheel arch area. And there is a hole above the removable A pillar splash guard but it's even bigger. And I have no plug in that hole!

The 2002 uses that plug in rear arch area though.
 
I think there are also some on the top side in the engine compartment against the upper side water channels (on the inside of the engine compartment). Me thinks.

I agree. Top of fender. There are holes in the angle pieces with the curved flanges that hold the inner and outer fender together.

The plugs in the inside rocker panels (behind the carpet) are larger in diameter.

Medicine pill cap lost by a previous owner. More specifically reuptake inhibitor pills.
 
But only on the later coupes, correct. I have never seen those before, Don says mid 74.

Chris - that is possible. The original angle pieces I pulled off my car (72) did not have those holes. However, the new replacement parts did.
 
Its new metal and later 74.
Total of 6 two forward and 2 rear and 2 at left and right vin area.
