Water pump installation

Does a new water pump install require any type of sealant along with the supplied paper gasket?

i put a very very thin trace of Hylomar on both sides, not enough to let any ooze out when tightened.

I like to use gasket shellac (a sticky brown liquid). Probably anything or nothing is fine, so long as you don't use silicone in a large enough quality to clog the pump, as I've seen some people do.

+1 just wet the paper gasket with a dab of sealant, loctite had a gasket mounting paste that i used in all my gaskets

I use Dirko as it is always easy to remove later on.

used no sealant whatsoever. just really really clean surfaces, correct torque. completed water pump install March, no weeps or leaks. Mike

Either way, but if you're space challenged a little "spooge" can keep the gasket in place
