“We will be imposing a 50% Tariff on all Kitchen Cabinets, Bathroom Vanities, and associated products, starting October 1st, 2025. Additionally, we will be charging a 30% Tariff on Upholstered Furniture,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post Thursday evening

There’s 100’s of thousands of small businesses in the USA that just got a kick in the teeth. Every furniture store and remodeling business will sleep well tonight

Not.

Oh Whoops…

I can only imagine the disaster at Lowe’s and Home Depot this morning.
Everything sold out and taking no orders.
As much as I don’t like Home Depot, I do pity what they’re going through.
If they buy something for $100.00 and sell it for $170.00 once the new tariffs come in they’re gonna pay $150.00 and have to charge 70% above that to stay in business.

Do the math- new cost with tariffs is $150.00 item now goes to $255.00 sale price

Don’t forget the added taxes on that $255.00 !!

Final price on my island goes from $1870.00 for 10 cabinets to $2800.00

Beancounters across “Merica” are screaming…..

Republican contractors want to retroactively change their vote.
Their workers are disappearing and so are their customers.

Best argument ever to postpone the house remodeling and dump the funds into your e9.

I feel you.
You know, we have some space left here in Europe if you want. No such tariffs here if you want to remodel.

(shameless attempt to get SFDon to move to our side of the pond...)

I’m here! I’ve been here for the last 3 weeks this time.

I’ve been in Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Luxembourg and Monaco over the last 3 years.

No England unless Heathrow counts and no Netherlands unless Schiphol counts!

My only issue is Schengen rules. I’m always at the edge of 90 of 180 days

Daughter is here and has a residential visa already and bought a 4 bedroom house in Porto.

Sending cars to Miguel at RS Garage already.

I agree, we had 10 days there, a couple of years ago! Even on this side of the Atlantic we are casting envious eyes at Portugal ...

Motorcycle part I bought from Spain (bill doesnt show the $20 in broker's fees):

I bought my 32… yes 32 kitchen cabinets from North Carolina.

We should.., I said should consider US sources for things… as much as this is the plan of this administration. I don’t agree with it…

Some things I still do trust but obviously not all things is that possible. Like channel locks. Always but the name brand.., many more examples.

(Good for you, tdgray. Lots of good quality domestic cabinetry around).
But that's just effing wonderful news. Our International Furniture Market, in High Point, NC, USA is in about a month. I design for mostly high-end domestic upholstery companies, but 95% of dining chairs, carved/exposed wood upholstered pieces, and casegoods/occasional wood furniture is made in Europe or Asia....(some in good ol' Canada)...but this will really kill an industry that has really slim margins to start with. Hope this is more taco nonsense, but tonight, this is really depressing news.

So effing sad, I feel sorry for anybody in any part of those industries and in our mutual hobby/passion, the idea that some American is going to start a W&N with American workers and manufacturing etc is just assinine, we simply will pay more for furniture and car parts and many other "things".

Moderators, please feel free to remove this comment if it is not appropriate. Apologies.
