Our 2800cs is all apart for restoration. We installed AC from a donor car many years ago. The condenser fan we used is the one that came off the 72 donor car. It is the one with the frame around it. We have another one which seems to have the same fan but with a different way of mounting. Seem like the one with out the housing surround might be a better way to go but no sure how it gets installed. Could it be from a E3 as we did have a system from a E3 for parts.

We are also considering using a spal type fan attached directly to our new parallel flow condenser, but are not 100% convinced they are any better in pushing the air.

We have read many of the AC threads and really cant find an answer. We would like to stay with the original fan as it seemed to work ok here in FL. System was R12 and 100% stock, but we are updating the condenser, going to R134 (reluctantly) and newer Sanden 508.

Comments and where did the the sencon fan come from and how does it mount?

Thanks

I’m happy with the performance of the little stock fan. The modification I made to the system design is that I have a little adjustable module that turns that fan on and off based on the high side refrigerant temperature instead of using a preadjusted pressure switch. My thinking is that if you’re concerned it’s too small, make it run more of the time.

The major advantage to the stock fan is you can take it out through the grille and repair it without needing to discharge the AC and drain the coolant.

My stock fan works fine with the modern parallel flow compressor/Sanden, and it's quiet. The weak link is the evaporator. Although I am running R-12 if that makes a difference.

I am also using stock fan with Sanden 709 and R134. Other than freezing the knees, it works well.

Thanks for all the replies and we are pretty sure going to stay with stock fan, but which one?

Those of you who are running the stock fan, is your fan the first photo with the shroud around it and the large brackets?

Or is it the 2nd fan with just two arms coming out.

The Blue book covers the installation of AC in non AC cars and it shows installing the 2nd fan, but not clear what brackets it attaches. Seem like the 2nd fan might be better because of less brackets to impede the air flow, OR is the shroud around the first fan actually a help.

Any answers?

Thanks

Our 71 2800CS has a condenser fan mounted in front of the condenser. You might look through this section.
