Both the D and unlabeled port are 7/16 so I’m guessing it’s R12 and it doesn’t look like a York or a Sanden since it has a German info plate.

good questions. What we can see of the fittings appear to be flared so my guess would be R-12. More information would be helpful.

The 74 e9 got the axial compressor so it isn’t a rotary, these were also used in Porsche 928s and parts are not available.

Hmm, that makes sense. thanks! Hopefully it "just works still" and I can fix the leak(s) and get back in business.
MY UV penlight shows a couple hose connections that are pretty bright so I'll probably get a nitrogen bottle and try a basic pressure test...

If you have the copper cupped washers / seals in there and they are leaking, you can take them out and heat them up to reuse them almost like new Having a brain fart and can't remember the proper name for doing this I think that I might have a few of those still kicking around some where Ha ! annealing is what it is called

Yes! the suction port configuration is slightly different but seeing a label I can read is super helpful!
Unfortunately I'm out of town for the next couple weekends but hopefully by August I can put gauges on it to see what the condition is, check for leaks, and go from there...

It’s still (a) July and I actually made progress. The compressor, evaporator, and associated hoses all hold pressure but not the condenser so that’s an excuse to replace it and the pusher fan with modern ones along with a new drier and a couple hoses. I’ve been able to flush the evaporator and the hoses that don’t leak. Now I need to drain the compressor oil but I’m not sure if the drain screw is this handy hex head on the side or the brass one on the back?
Or do I just have to pull it and hold the discharge port over a catch pan?
I’ll add a list of my parts sources once I know everything fits. Nothing was terribly expensive
