What would be the term? Street what?

Saw one yesterday in Carmel-by-the-Sea. Looked like a 73 CSi red faded paint. I like something about parking it with open windows, one cracked Hella, reflector mounted on the gas tank door, silver wheel arches mixed with black grills, strange rims, non-stock side mirror. A carefree way of saying life is short and I do what I feel like.

Patina

Patina = not having to apologize for paint and overall condition.

There is good patina like a survivor original concours quality historic preservation where the car is mechanically excellent and street able.

Then there's the bad patina which is complete neglect and indifference to the use of the vehicle or beater as stated in another post.

Actually a “jungle cruiser” is a car that’s less than pristine so you don’t get sick every time you find a new door ding in it and you don’t worry about it if you have no choice but to park in a bad area. I’d say that’s pretty much the opposite of a “garage queen”, don’t you think ? ~ John Buchtenkirch

The root of the problem is that there no opposite for the work "Queen".
Some sites place "King" as the opposite of "Queen" which is pardon me "royal nonsense"...
Others admit there is no opposite.

Continuing the series of Not Garage Queens this weekend I went to Montara Beach and parked next to a 740 that made me envy the carefree life. A surfboard on top, sandals inside, mismatched rims, Idaho plates with Hawaii visit stickers, Kumho tires in the back and Maypops in the front.

There is something about these cars that makes them elegant even when neglected.

Well there is Dairy Queen & Burger King which are in ways similar.
A Garage King is for male cars, since not all cars are female.

Isn't the opposite of royal, peasant or pauper?

Garage Peasant or
Garage Pauper
Garage Serf or
Garage Indentured Servant

obviously a trustafarian :-)

Andrew, I think Garage Indentured Servant is more accurate when describing we owners than the cars, Did anyone use the tag "curb tramp" yet? If not then that's my 2 cents.

My Harley friends refer to the polar opposite of a a trailer queen as a Rat Dog. And they all aspire to one. Must be a Harley thing.

When I lived on Maui, the phrase was Maui Cruiser. There were a lot of cars that had seen some neglect from their third or fourth owner and were less than pristine. Many are dumped for cheap when the owner leaves the island. They are driven till they fail for some reason and then scrapped.

Just my opinion here, but the opposite of queen, in this context, is not king. In the present consideration, the opposite of queen is a slattern, or gutter snipe; a capable, but worn and dirty vehicle you will use for just about anything despite its marque or provenance. Most of my cars have fallen into this category. I just called them "sleds".
