Allow me to extract my foot from my mouth. Looking again at the real oem parts diagram what I thought was a separate small cooler was an exploded diagram of what is internal in the auto radiator. Mine being converted to auto had a manual radiator with an external cooler

this is the radiator for automatic cars - on the right hand you see the oil cooler and the red marks are the lines going in and out for the cooling oil for the transmission
