What Neue Klasse is New Again

It does remind me of the 2000cs. At least they have stepped away from the gaping grills. This looks like a prototype. I'd think the production vehicles will be toned down a bit, for example the bumpers don't look like they would meet crash standards.

They should be too embarrassed to release it.
Uh, remember: these are the people who released this:

the front end looks more like a Fisker. i kinda like the reverse cut on the tail end - a little reminiscent of the coupe and the e12. not the worst idea i have seen from BMW

Better than most of the recent lineup, but not the best either.. Weird overly wide grille with lamps oddly embedded in the sides, and more homage to Bangle's slab sided monstrosities...

It could probably be rescued, but given BMW's recent design sensibility, I kinda doubt it will..

You’re correct about the prototype being toned down. Here’s some camouflaged nearer production spy shots that look much less exaggerated in every detail. The overall body shape looks not that different than the current one.

I really wish BMW would look back at their roots in design. I bet they would sell like hotcakes with the modern features which is just more stuff to go wrong to me, but that progress isn't going away, the design can still be elegant and reflect BMW heritage.

The BMW's these days are throw away cars after warranty is up or lease. Hate to say that but so much can go wrong with all the electronics and they pre-program this stuff to fail after warranty is up. IMHO. The grills now are heinous. This is a Neue Klasse that has no resemblance to the original. And I get it is more of a "New Class" concept for the future, but if that is their vision, they need more input from the vintage crowd.

On a side note of sorts; I recently took the coupe to a totally random small shop here in Idaho because my mechanic took a month off and all I needed was an exhaust hanger mount installed (three bolts), but easier done on a lift. He also got me in right away and was a really cool guy, AAA rated shop. He admittingly told me he's never worked on a european car, let alone a vintage one, and he was taken back by how nice and simple the engineering was. He loved the car. Did a great job and for simple stuff I will go back to him. That was cool to hear.

How can they possibly achieve rollover protection with an all -glass roof and such a thin member at the top of the windshield?
Overall I don't think it looks that bad. All the major manufacturers produce what (with a roundel of fifteen stuck on) look too much alike in silhouette. BMW needs something new and different and this has a look I rather like. I'll never afford one but that's neither here no there.

On another note, my wife and I will be in Munich in three weeks, so we may see this in person.
